Answering the Call of Our Fallen
February 28, 2007
Answering the Call of Our Fallen
by Kit Jarrell from Euphoric Reality
Decades ago, we expected total victory against the Germans and the Japanese. We demanded it, for we knew what anything less would bring to our homeland–and yes, it was our homeland, regardless of our place of birth. We were united, together in the absolute, unshakable belief that freedom was worth blood, even our own lives.
Many years later, the American Left called for the defeat and humiliation of our military, even going so far as to support the barbaric hordes of Islam in their quest to destroy America. The college-age hippies of 1969 were now parents and grandparents, with families who didn’t have the faintest idea where Iwo Jima is and wouldn’t dream of enlisting in the “imperialist army” of their nation. These past flower children, still apparently lost in the fog of free love and LSD, forgot their fathers’ old “war injuries,” received in places like Normandy, Bastogne, or Wake Island. Their children hated authority, hated America, and hated anything that stood in the way of the freedoms they abused. To them, freedom of speech meant they should be able to wear their “F*** You” shirt to school.
During the War on Terror, it seemed as though these families were the only Americans left here at home, as our best and brightest went to Iraq and Afghanistan. The families of our heroes stayed quiet, their support showing in the form of tangible things like batteries and treats shipped in boxes with “We Love You” written on the side, in marker as permanent as their worry. For those who changed their blue star to gold, the pain of their loss often made them shy away from the pure, vitriolic hatred of the ever contradictory motto of the Left: “Support the troops…bring them home.”
Meanwhile, the antiwar crowd marched in Washington, San Francisco and New York.
And in the day-to-day grind of American weekday life, millions of patriotic Americans simply went to work and came home. We couldn’t afford to miss work to stand on a street corner. We put our yellow ribbons on our cars and our flags in the window, hoping that the troops knew we cared. We yelled at the TV and the radio when appropriate and muttered to our friends about how infuriated we were at these people who thought liberty was a commodity. Our anger burned deeply, but slowly.
The antiwar crowd kept marching and declared themselves the majority. They had the funding, the celebrity backing, the media fascination. They were everywhere. They spray-painted the Capitol steps, sent money to the terrorists, and staged media feeding frenzies outside the President’s home. They even held up their anti-American signs outside military hospitals, where soldiers and Marines who gave pieces of themselves in exchange for freedom tried to get used to life without their best friends, their limbs, and in some cases, their sanity.
The Cindy Sheehans and Jane Fondas of the nation got bolder, spurred on by the silence of those who kept their medals and memories locked away. It seemed as though there was no stopping the force of those who sought to bring the mightiest nation on earth to her knees.
But then, the antiwar groups announced plans to begin their next march at the Vietnam Wall. Fifty-eight thousand names cried out in protest, and America heard the call of her fallen.
We were finally angry enough.
It began like a quiet rumble, the hint of an impending storm. A small group of veterans slowly rose to their feet, their combat disabilities unable to hinder them this time. A gas station attendant, a lawyer, a doctor, a housewife. One by one, Americans stood, setting down their lives to answer the reveille, minutemen once again in the cause of freedom.
They came from New York City and Nowhere, Indiana. They drove in from the mountains of Idaho and flew in from Hawaii. They rose up from all walks of life, all financial situations. The wave rolled across the United States like a tsunami, determined to reach Washington, D.C. for one purpose: to deliver a message to the flower children that was forty years overdue.
The message was simple, and as thousands of Americans stood in stoic rows around the memorial, it reverberated off the ebony beauty of the Wall. The silence of their stand deafened the obnoxious antics of the defeatists and sent a clarion call like a beacon across the globe.
Half a world away, soldiers and Marines lifted their heads a bit higher and stood taller.
And at the Wall, as thousands of American faces reflected in the polished surface, the ghosts of more than 58,000 men smiled back in silent, grateful pride as their lips mouthed the message their countrymen had come so far to deliver:
Freedom.

A Paratrooper’s Opinion On The Gathering of Eagles
February 27, 2007
Dear America:
I have seen Vietnam Veterans and their family’s gather at Rolling Thunder by the hundreds of thousands… at Melbourne, Florida for the kickoff of the year’s Vietnam Veteran reunions…at a thousand small towns in between both coasts for a day of festivities and unabashed patriotism … at Kokomo Indiana for the last, all Veteran’s reunion of the year.
I have ridden coast to coast and found literally thousands of Vet groups all working independently of each other, but all working towards a common goal; the betterment of the Veteran’s lot and the betterment of The USA.  There were almost 500,000 bikes at last years Rolling Thunder, and easily and over a hundred thousand vets at many other, separate reunions.
This GATHERING OF EAGLES transcends all those reunions in importance; as we are not only going to protect the Memorials and to honor our dead as we gather; but to boost the morale of our troops engaged in battle with an enemy who has attacked our shores, who has been attacking us since any of us can remember by blowing up our embassies, knocking our planes from the skies, killing our Marines in their sleep, murdering our sailors at chow while their ship sat at anchor.
We are at a point in our history where the danger to our democracy has NEVER been greater or more visible.
Our troops hear the protesters because the left leaning Mass Media WANTS them to hear only that side of America. And they do hear it.
And they are aware of this coming “GATHERING OF EAGLES”. Very aware.
They, our Marines, Army, Air Force and Navy engaging the enemy in both Afghanistan and Iraq will be watching to see … “How many?” How many Americans support them? They will be watching … and they must not be disappointed.
This is one of the most important gatherings in America’s history. Every bit as important as how many of those Revolutionary War Soldiers braved the winter to win this country its Freedom. Every bit as important as those millions of citizens who rationed everything they had; lived without butter, tires, worked 12 hour shifts, gave up their pots and pans so America might have a better chance to win WWII.
This sacrifice of ours is only of time. We will not be huddled freezing around tiny camp fires with rags for shoes, no one has to go without so our troops might have the equipment they need to carry the battle.
We need you! Every one of you!
We need you to spread the word, and to come to Washington, DC. To be there at the Wall on March 17th; not only to make certain the hard core anarchists among the protesters do not deface any memorial, but to send a message to our troops in harm’s way.
A message they will be listening and watching for.
It is up to each of us to look inside ourselves and ask …”Is this worth it?”
The only possible answer you can arrive at is that is not only very much worth it; it is IMPERATIVE that you go.
The sound of a hundred thousand flags being held aloft in dignity and HONOR will be deafening in its wonderful silence … a silence heard all around this world. This Gathering of Eagles will come to be known as the “Woodstock” of Patriotism.
Those of you on the fence as if you can go or not, I say to you now; Please, you must go! There will most likely never be a more important event in our lifetime. We need you to stand together with us on the 17th of March or the Jane Fondas, the CODE PINKS and Stalinist Worker’s Party of this country will claim victory.
And our troops today will feel that day what we felt in the Jungles of Vietnam, even as we fought the biggest battle of the Cold War.

What If A Gathering of Eagles Fails? Magnum P.I. Answered ‘What If!’
February 27, 2007
Another excellent commentary from Ron Winter. Please go here to read the article in its entirety, especially the Magnum P.I. connection. Meanwhile, a rousing excerpt is below:
There is no question that the vigil is necessary, and for it to succeed, it needs only to occur. Whether the vigil is attended by 50 veterans, or 500 or 5000, is not relevant. That we go, and stand shoulder to shoulder to defend our memorials and the honor and dignity of the Americans who died defending our freedoms is all that matters.
Regarding the possibility of violence, it is likely only if it is used by the pro-terrorists and their anarchist brethren. But I would caution those prone to violence to think twice before attacking a solid mass of people who are the all-time masters at improvisational combat. The media can rewrite history all it wants, but we have defeated every enemy we ever faced, regardless of how vicious the tactics they used.
We have improvised, we have adapted and we have overcome every single time. I wouldn’t recommend violence against this group, especially from people who are attempting to shield their true pro-terrorism agenda from the public by claiming to be marching for “peace.”
We will stand our vigil, peacefully, but firmly. Attacking us would be foolhardy and counter-productive on many fronts.
I realize that the hand-wringers and worry warts will continue to chew on this issue right up until March 17, and probably even afterwards. That is their nature and it won’t change.
But there is a simple and succinct answer to the question “What if we don’t go?”
“We will!”

The song is called “8th of November,” and it’s done by country group Big & Rich. If you can get through this without crying, then we’ll be surprised.
At about 0600 on the morning of 8 November C Company began a move northwest toward Hill 65, while B Company moved northeast toward Hill 78. Shortly before 0800, C Company was engaged by a sizable enemy force well dug in to the southern face of Hill 65. At 0845, B Company was directed to wheel in place and proceed toward Hill 65 with the intention of relieving C Company.
B Company reached the foot of Hill 65 at about 0930 and moved up the hill. It became obvious that there was a very large enemy force in place on the hill,C Company was getting hammered, and by chance, B Company was forcing the enemy’s right flank.
Under pressure from B Company’s flanking attack the enemy force—most of a Viet Cong regiment—moved to the northwest, whereupon the B Company commander called in air and artillery fires on the retreating troops. B Company halted in place in an effort to locate and consolidate with C Company’s platoons, managing to establish a coherent defensive line running around the hilltop from southeast to northwest, but with little cover on the southern side.
Meanwhile, the VC commander realized that his best chance was to close with the US soldiers so that the 173rd’s air and artillery fire could not be effectively employed. He attempted to out-flank the US position atop the hill from both the east and the southwest, moving his troops closer to the Americans. The result was shoulder-to-shoulder attacks up the hillside, hand-to-hand fighting, and isolation of parts of B and C Companies but the Americans held against two such attacks. Although the fighting continued after the second massed attack, it reduced in intensity as the VC commander again attempted to disengage and withdraw. By late afternoon it seemed that contact had been broken off, allowing the two companies to prepare a night defensive position while collecting their dead and wounded in the center of the position. Although a few of the most seriously wounded were extracted by USAF helicopters using Stokes litters, the triple-canopy jungle prevented the majority from being evacuated until the morning of 9 November.
The result of the battle was heavy losses on both sides—48 Paratroopers dead, many more wounded, and 403 dead VC troops.
It is for these 48 Paratroopers–and all of our brothers and sisters–that we will be in Washington on the 17th.

NCOs: Take Charge and Carry Out the Plan of the Day
February 25, 2007
Gathering of Eagles is looking for a few “Take Charge” NCOs in each state. Contact people in your State Info section or advertise at the American Legion, VFW and VVA Posts in your area to generate interest in taking a bus to DC for the Gathering of Eagles. There are over two weeks to put this together, and getting a bus together is an excellent way to share expenses or make the trip to DC affordable for the troops.
Here are the facts:
The bus must arrive in DC between 0730 and 0930 on March 17th, departing around between 1600 and 1800. The U.S. Park Police will be setting the drop-off and pick-up locations, and may designate a bus parking area. Gathering of Eagles has designated a Point of Contact for bus companies to obtain specific routing instructions.

Veterans Rights Network Endorses Gathering of Eagles
February 24, 2007
For Immediate Release!
February 24, 2007
All Stations,
This media release is to confirm our support and participation with the “Gathering of Eagles’ event scheduled for March 17th in Washington, DC.
The FIREBASE NETWORK Board of Directors voted unanimously to endorse GOE and their Mission Statement.
In addition, we are encouraging all FBN stations and supporters to embrace the GOE mission and attend the event in DC. It is time WE stood up for what WE believe in. We simply must protect the memory and honor of our dead. And we simply cannot allow our men and women returning home to suffer degradation, humiliation and scorn such our Vietnam brothers and sisters have, and still experience. It is extremely important at this time in our history that we repel all attacks on the morale of our brave men and women in uniform. To do anything less, may be very detrimental to future enlistments, retention, and our overall national security.
On behalf of the FIREBASE NETWORK, we Salute Col. Harry Riley on his innovative Leadership, and wish him great success with the GOE Mission.
National Director,
Rick Townsend
Call For Help
February 24, 2007
Folks, we thought that “A Gathering of Eagles would be a relatively modest undertaking, with maybe a couple thousand patriots gathering with the sole purpose of defending The Wall against the depredations of the America-hating A.N.S.W.E.R. crowd. Our focus was simply to send a message and protect our Wall.
Well, there’s good news! We are now looking at TENS OF THOUSANDS of Americans who will not only be guarding The Wall, but showing Jane Fonda and Cindy Sheehan that they will not control Washington, D.C. on March 17th.
The response to the announcement of our counter-protest has been nothing short of phenomenal. If you don’t believe us, just scroll through the website and look at “State Infoâ€? and “Volunteer Infoâ€? (under “Sectionsâ€? on the right side of the homepage) and “Logisticsâ€? under “Article Topics,â€? which is just below “Sections.â€? In just two short weeks, we’ve had almost 105,000 hits to the website, with an outpouring of volunteers and help from all sides.
What you don’t see are the additional expenses that we’re incurring in making this thing happen. Just for starters, the National Park Service told us that we should plan on having one porta-potty for each 300 Eagles! While we think that’s a little excessive, it is clear that we will be spending several thousand dollars to furnish enough for our use. We also have to provide medical emergency services and insurance, which will cost thousands more.
And that isn’t all. Since so many Eagles are coming, we are forced to do a bit more than provide “milling-around space. Now we are going to have a full-fledged rally, with platform, sound system, and decorations. That will run several thousand dollars more.
We can tell you that we need around $25,000.00 to pull this one off properly. We can also tell you that folks are already sending unsolicited gifts, and we now have over $3,000.00 in the bank. That’s a great start, and we thank those who have already contributed.
The GOE co-chairs have loaned the Gathering $10,000.00. Please don’t make us “eat that investment!
Should we have funds left over post-Gathering, we will donate them to charitable organizations, especially those that benefit vets returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.
Time is short, and our needs are long. We’ve undertaken this event on faith, and we need all of you to help us. PLEASE send a contribution by PayPal or credit card (via the website) or by check payable to “Gathering of Eagles and mailed to:
Vets for the Truth

Chocowinity, NC 27817
PLEASE HELP! This may well be the most important pro-troop rally in our country’s history, and we humbly ask that you help us make it the biggest!
Many thanks. We hope to see you on March 17th!
Eagles Up!

Security Update #1
February 24, 2007
The National Park Service has advised us that no signs, banners, flags, and nothing which could remotely be construed as a weapon will be allowed at the Wall. We are just going to have to travel light when we approach the Wall.
We are negotiating the use of several areas which will be perfect locations for everyone who does wish to display signs, banners, and flags to assemble. Look for more on these specific locations in the future. There will be plenty of places to unfurl all those flags that we are bringing, just not at the Wall itself.
Some may be disappointed at not being able to take their flags to the Wall, but this ruling will make it much easier for everyone to see if someone approaches the Wall with anything which could mark or damage it. This should work to our advantage and be a great help in accomplishing our mission.
Please also understand that a certain amount of flexibility is necessary for all of us. We may need to keep some exact locations of events under wraps in order to keep the opposition from sabotaging our plans. We should have plenty of people on the ground to help direct you where the different activities are happening.
All appropriate permits have been applied for and are being processed. The NPS is very deliberately considering every detail of our (and their) requests and has the best interest of the Memorials at heart as it considers how to best proceed. We will have plenty of space to assemble and operate.

Fly High You Eagles, Soar
February 22, 2007
This poem was created by Russ Vaughn, of American Thinker, for you, the Eagles.
[American Thinker Editor's note: In response to the announced intention of Jane Fonda and Cindy Sheehan to lead a Washington protest originating at the Vietnam Memorial, the group Gathering of Eagles was formed. Our Poet Laureate Russ Vaughn offers his thoughts.]
Fly High you Eagles, soar
On you we all depend.
To serve, to stand, support our war,
Our fallen to defend.
Stand firm, stand brave before our Wall;
Deal those a sorry fate,
Who answer Fonda’s hateful call:
Our nation they must hate.Fly high you Eagles, soar,
Your keen eyes see below,
The leftist fools oppose this war,
To them no low’s too low.
They seek our Wall to desecrate,
To enhance their losing cause;
They seek to doom our nation’s fate;
They see nothing but our flaws.Fly high you Eagles, soar,
Above those who seek defeat,
Who seek submission, nothing more,
To a terror they can’t meet.
They falter when the course is long;
They’re weak-willed, failed and bitter;
Got it all entirely wrong,
So typical of a quitter.Fly high you Eagles, soar,
Stand proud before our Wall;
You are the nation’s heart, the core,
The essence of us all.
Know that we stand there with you,
In spirit and in soul,
America’s not lost, not through,
We’ve a long, long way to go.Fly high you Eagles, soar, from your lofty, special station,
Know this is true forever more; you’ve the blessing of your nation.
Russ Vaughn
Vietnam Veteran
A note from the Russ: I have been asked by friends to write in support of the Gathering of Eagles, the patriotic response of veterans and other supporters to the announced intention of the leftist-led, anti-war movement to march on the Pentagon on March 17th. When it became known that they intend to commence their march at the Vietnam War Memorial, the Wall, veterans groups all over the country began to organize a watch group for that and the other war memorials in that area of the Washington Mall to insure they will not be defaced or disrespected by these marchers as was our Capitol during a previous antiwar demonstration.
I have written some strongly worded lyrics to a song which I hope some musician will be able to set to some vigorous music. The lyrics will be featured on T-shirts being made up for the gathering. The T-shirt designer has asked me to refrain from disseminating the lyrics until he has his product ready to go, so I will send them to you when possible. I think you will appreciate the sentiments they express. By the way, my remuneration for this effort is the pledge of one extra-large T-shirt and nothing more
In the meantime, I have written a supportive poem, Fly High You Eagles, Soar, which is now up on the Internet here:
I am sending this message out to my many friends who are consistently and authentically supportive of our troops and our veterans in the hope that you will post my poem and links to the Gathering of Eagles website and help to make this an event America will take note of. The MSM loves to give ink and airtime to Jane Fonda and Cindy Sheehan but the only notice we will get is what we generate through our own resources so I urge you to get on board with that effort.
Regards,
Russ

The Canadians Are Coming! The Canadians Are Coming!
February 21, 2007
Ronald Winter has written another article about the Gathering of Eagles, and this one is from an incredibly unique perspective. It tells the little known story of Canadians who came south to join the U.S. Armed Forces, specifically to serve in Vietnam. There are Canadian names on the Wall, and they are just as committed to preserving the sanctity of the Wall as we are. Please go here to read the entire article. An excerpt is below:
What rarely gets mentioned, especially in the American Terrorist Media, is that thousands of Canadian citizens also headed south specifically to enlist in the armed forces of the United States, specifically to serve in Vietnam.
How many?
That is anyone’s guess. I have done some research, which reveals that no one seems to know definitively. There does seem to be agreement among the Canadian Vietnam veterans themselves that somewhere between 15,000 and 25,000 is a reasonable estimate.
[...]
Regardless, the fact is that thousands of our Canadian neighbors came south to help us and they got little to no recognition for it. I think that should change, and a Gathering of Eagles, the movement to protect the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington DC from vandalism on March 17 provides that opportunity.I received an email a few days ago from a Canadian lady, an Air Force veteran who is coming down to DC with an Army veteran specifically “to defend the names of the Canadians on that wall.” She noted that there are others who want to attend also. It is my hope that they again come south in large numbers as they did 40 years ago, and I can assure my brother and sister veterans from Canada that they will be well received.
Since I last wrote about A Gathering of Eagles, it has gained incredible strength. It started out as a few emails between veterans who were appalled that the Capitol police were ordered to allow anarchists attending a Jane Fonda headlined anti-war protest in January to vandalize the Capitol. The writers feared that something similar would occur during another planned anti-war protest on March 17 that is forming up right next to the Vietnam Memorial.
Those emails then escalated to postings on veteran or military oriented web sites, and that got things really moving. I heard about it on the www.TogetherWeServed.com website, before it actually got the name Gathering of Eagles, and after writing about it here, got notices from all over the country that like-minded people were getting involved and making plans to be in DC on March 17.
Organizers are concerned that the planned anti-war march on the Pentagon, which is billed as an anniversary celebration of a similar march 40 years ago, includes in its list of participants anti-American and pro-terrorist individuals and organizations, some of whom they fear would have no problem defacing the memorial.
But the numbers who would oppose any such vandalism are growing. In recent days members of the Rolling Thunder motorcycle riders who make an annual pilgrimage to The Wall on Memorial Day have signed on as supporters, as have the Patriot Guard Riders, National Order of the Purple Heart, various POW organizations, and veterans’ groups and individuals representing all services from all eras.
In addition, a caravan of Gold Star and Blue Star mothers, representing those who have sons and daughters killed in action while serving our country, or those currently serving, will be making its way across the US to arrive in DC in time for the vigil at The Wall.
Please note that once again I have used the word vigil. I suggested to my brother and sister Marines at TWS that we not portray this as a counter-protest or opposition to the rights of the pro-terrorist marchers, but as a vigil to protect the honor and memories of our fallen brothers and sisters. The official web site for the vigil, also makes that point very strongly.
In fact the website clearly states that the reason for this vigil is “To stand silent guard over our nation’s memorials, in honor of our fallen, and in solidarity with our armed forces in harm’s way today.”

The GOE Store
February 21, 2007
Yesterday, we announced the opening of the GOE store, where you can purchase armbands, headgear, Tshirts and much more. Since then, the store has been slammed with traffic, and there are a number of technical issues that they are working hard on resolving.
Please note that that website is a separate e-commerce site and you will have to register in order to purchase online. Your login from here or from our forum will NOT work over there, so don’t frustrate yourself trying.
Also, we got this word from the store operator:
We’ll be coming out with a few new things over the next few days - one is an original piece of artwork for shirts, etc that’s going to KNOCK their SOCKS off!
The folks running the store are veterans themselves and they are working hard to accommodate everyone. Remember to order early to get your stuff in time, and before supplies run out.
