NCOs: Take Charge and Carry Out the Plan of the Day

February 25, 2007

Gathering of Eagles is looking for a few “Take Charge” NCOs in each state.  Contact people in your State Info section or advertise at the American Legion, VFW and VVA Posts in your area to generate interest in taking a bus to DC for the Gathering of Eagles.  There are over two weeks to put this together, and getting a bus together is an excellent way to share expenses or make the trip to DC affordable for the troops.

Here are the facts:

The bus must arrive in DC between 0730 and 0930 on March 17th,  departing around between 1600 and 1800.  The U.S. Park Police will be setting the drop-off and pick-up locations, and may designate a bus parking area.  Gathering of Eagles has designated a Point of Contact for bus companies to obtain specific routing instructions.

Eagles Up!

Gentlemen; Unfortunately I can’t volunteer to be one of the NCO’s due to financial considerations, but I wanted you to know that I am DAMN PROUD of all of you for your efforts! Also I wanted to let you know that there is one Vets organization you left out; the Disabled American Veterans. I am a past Commander of Chapter# 150 in NYS,and I’ll guarantee you that there will be Vets from the DAV in attendance. God bless you………..Bill

I have several convoys coming together in Western, Central and almost every major city in Upstate New York.
I am working with PGR Ride Captians who are more than willing to lend their organizational Skills and their hearts and souls to this endeavor. One is a Gold Star Mother, and Ride Captian for Western New York.

I am awaiting phone calls from other , like minded PGR officals acting on their own initiative.

Also have many Nam Vet Brothers, most of whom ride, just getting their acts together that WILL come.

I have outlines of mini gathering sites enroute. And subsequent hook up points to make on caravan out of many.

And that does not count the many leaving New York on their own.

I recieved some very moving E Mail from

    Pooknmoo2@aol.com ……. wrote…….

“I have noticed a number of PGR members looking for others going to the ” Gathering of Eagles ” on the various websites. I am interested in knowing how many from the WNY area might be going and what we can do to coordinate a group from this area and any of the bordering Regions. I know ASC David Kern from Region 2 is doing the same. Please email me with any suggestions or any plans you may have already made.
    Thanks,

    Dear Vernon,
Thank you for getting back to me; I am considering having a look at a bus charter for people from this area ( Buffalo and surrounding ). I am getting some fallout from members who feel this is not necessary. Here is my position: My son is SSGT. Aram J Bass who was KIA Nov. 23, 2005. If I am not there this time or the next or the next how long will to be before I am at Arlington trying to protect the grave of my son?
Thank you Vernon for your service. Talk to you soon.”

This Gathering of Eagles is not just to honor and protect the dead.

It is also to honor the living in harms way who are watching us, depending on us to show up in at least as large a numbers as the protesters.

Not for confrontation, but the silence of a hundred thousand Patriots holding flags would be deafening.

It would be heard all the way to the dusty streets of Baghdad.

    By friend and foe alike.

And it would show not only the moral backbone of those who love this land,
but uplift the spirts of those in combat fighting for the protester’s right to march.

I just saw the 6o minutes with the dissenters. We have to be careful not to bust the lip of these brothers. They are shaken up an misguided but they are with us. They will be yelling but we all know what that means.

Could you let me know if any charter if set up from the lower Hudson Valley NY. Our son CPL Carlos M. Gonzalez was KIA March 16, 2006 and we think (my wife and I)that he would expect from us to show the support needed for those who die to give us the freedom that we have and take for granted and for those who still fighting to preserve it.

I also pass out fliers to all VFW,AMVETS, American Legion, and DAV chapters. We had our arm bands made up and I have the Eagle patches. Let”s Roll.

I belong to The Vietnam Helicopter Flight Crew Network.
We are putting a list together of veterans converging on the Wall on the 17th. I am spreading the word and working hard everyday to mobilize folks to go to DC. I have a small group coming from the Naval Air Warfare Center to stand with us, all veterans. My buddy, Chris White, a Vietnam Vet and retired Firefighter is mobilizing people in Baltimore.
I will bring 25 full size flags to fly over our Fallen Heroes.
I know the Memory of Our Brothers and Sisters will be safeguarded.

Just a heads up bother but the park Police has come out and stated NO flag poles at the wall.

I have one 56 passenger bus coming full from Philly, and I am working on a second. Where should I tell the company to disgorge my crew? I currently have room for about 20 more people on one bus. Also, I stand ready to accept the mantle of NCO for the area. What else do you need from me? chillfactor1068@yahoo.com

Manchu86… more filled buses? Great job, typical of our NCOs…give them an idea and they make it work. Still waiting on the Park Police to decide where we will drop-off/park/pick-up. Keep an eye on the Main GOE webpage for specific info directed at the NCOs of Charter Buses.

My husband and I, both veterans, are coming up from Georgia. Are there any groups coming from here?

  17. Jon Hughes on March 4th, 2007 7:06 am

I’m also working West Michigan hard for folks (I’ve told several they DON’T need to be veterans). I’ve been to the Michigan site and am trying to coordinate with others to form a convoy. We WILL be there. Any Michiganders interested, my e-mail address is:
