What If A Gathering of Eagles Fails? Magnum P.I. Answered ‘What If!’

February 27, 2007

Another excellent commentary from Ron Winter. Please go here to read the article in its entirety, especially the Magnum P.I. connection. Meanwhile, a rousing excerpt is below:

There is no question that the vigil is necessary, and for it to succeed, it needs only to occur. Whether the vigil is attended by 50 veterans, or 500 or 5000, is not relevant. That we go, and stand shoulder to shoulder to defend our memorials and the honor and dignity of the Americans who died defending our freedoms is all that matters.

Regarding the possibility of violence, it is likely only if it is used by the pro-terrorists and their anarchist brethren. But I would caution those prone to violence to think twice before attacking a solid mass of people who are the all-time masters at improvisational combat. The media can rewrite history all it wants, but we have defeated every enemy we ever faced, regardless of how vicious the tactics they used.

We have improvised, we have adapted and we have overcome every single time. I wouldn’t recommend violence against this group, especially from people who are attempting to shield their true pro-terrorism agenda from the public by claiming to be marching for “peace.”

We will stand our vigil, peacefully, but firmly. Attacking us would be foolhardy and counter-productive on many fronts.

I realize that the hand-wringers and worry warts will continue to chew on this issue right up until March 17, and probably even afterwards. That is their nature and it won’t change.

But there is a simple and succinct answer to the question “What if we don’t go?”

“We will!”

I served 20+ years in the defense of this Nation and what it stands for. I have spilled my blood on distant lands and left several brothers behind. Both me and my wife, also a veteran, WILL be there to stand with our other brothers and sisters in defiance of this anti-American, terrorist supporting, communistic organization. I clearly remember the words of my Grandfather, a WW2 vet, “Son, we all have to stand for something, or you will surly fall for anything”. For those who fought for it, Freedom has a flavor the protected will never know.

Im playing catch-up on all this. I am truly saddened that such hollowed grounds need protection. Just standing in the presence of the Wall humbles the best and toughest of us. I fear that the biggest thing we have done is to acknowledge it as a prime target. I WILL be there on the 17th. I will defend it, Arlington, Pentagon (my mother was in there when it happened), wherever I am asked to stand. Vietnam wasnt my war (Desert Storm), so I will give my spot to a Vietnam Vet if it is needed or requested. The Wall will be protected.

I just worry what will happen on the 18th, 19th, etc. after we all get back on our scoots, buses, etc and head back home.

    Dear America,

I have seen Vietnam Veterans and their family’s gather at Rolling Thunder by the Hundreds of thousands, At Melbourn, Florida for the kickoff of the year’s Vietnam Veteran reunions.

At a thousand small towns in between both coasts for a day of festivities and unabashed patriotism … At Kokomo Indiana for the last big all Vets reunion of the year.

I have ridden coast to coast and found literally thousands of Vet groups all working independently of each other, but all working towards a common goal; the betterment of the Veteran’s lot and the betterment of The USA.

There were almost 500,000 bikes at last years Rolling Thunder, and easily a over a hundred thousand vets at many other, seperate reunions.

This GATHERING OF EAGLES transcends all those reunions in importance; as we are not only going to protect the Memorials and to Honor our dead as we gather; but to boost the Morale of our troops engaged in battle with an enemy who has attacked our shores, who has been attacking us since any of us can remember by blowing up our embassies, knocking our planes from the skies, killing our Marines in their sleep, murdering our sailors at chow while their ship sat at anchor.

We are at a point in our history where the danger to our democracy has NEVER been greater or more visable.

Our troops hear the protesters because the left leaning Mass Media WANTS them to hear only that side of America.

    And they do hear it.

And they are aware of this coming “GATHERING OF EAGLES” Very aware.

They, our Marines, Army, Air Force and Navy engaging the enemy in both Afghanistan and Iraq will be watching to see … “How many?”
How many Americans support them? They will be watching … and they must not be dissappointed.

This is one of the most important gatherings in America’s history. Every bit as important as how many of those Revolutionary War Soldiers braved the Winter to win this country its Freedom.

Every bit as important as those millions of citizens who rationed everything they had; lived without butter, tires, worked 12 hour shifts, gave up their pots and pans so America might have a better chance to win WWII.

This sacrifice of ours is only of time. We will not be huddled freezing around tiny camp fires with rags for shoes, no one has to go without so our troops might have the equipment they need to carry the battle.

We need you! Every one of you!

We need you to spread the word, and to come to Washington DC. To be there at the Wall on March 17th; not only to make certain the hard core anarchist among the protesters do not deface any memorial, but to send a message to our troops in harms way.

A message they will be listening and watching for.

It is up to each of us to look inside ourselves and ask …”Is this worth it?”

The only possible answer you can arrive at is that is is not only very much worth it; it is IMPERATIVE that you go.

The sound of a hundred thousand flags being held aloft in dignity and HONOR will be deafening in its wonderful silence … a silence heard all around this world.

This Gathering of Eagles will come to be known as the “Woodstock” of Patriotism.

Those of you on the fence as if you can go or not, I say to you now; Please, you must go!

There will most likely never be a more important event in our lifetime.

We need you to stand together with us on the 17th of March or the Jane Fonda’s, the CODE PINKS and Stalinist Worker’s Party of this country will claim victory.

And our troops today will feel that day what we felt in the Jungles of Vietnam, even as we fought the biggest battle of the Cold War.

  8. Randi Gifford on February 27th, 2007 11:46 am

Our Wall won’t need protecting. I was there in January when the last march took place. Many of the marchers visited the wall when it was over. They weren’t throwing paint or cursing. They were shedding tears, just like the rest of us.

You may disagree with what they say. But you defended with your lives their right to say it. You truly are heroes.

  9. Bikini28 on February 27th, 2007 12:23 pm

I think it will be very peaceful at the wall on the 17th. It is just going to be a great day to visit the wall with a few thousand friends who also care deeply about the wall. I hope to see alot of old friends there. This old chopper pilot can not think of any place in the world better to be than the WALL on the 17th.

    Larry Lawson;

This effort is about honoring our vets, supporting our troops and expressing our faith, hope and dedication to those who serve. It is about preventing those who would dishonor and defile this sacred monument from doing so.

Take your political bile and spew it on some other blog.

“Larry Lawson” is a most obnoxious entity that we’ve banned countless times. It uses proxy switchers and bots to leave its droppings everywhere. Lawson is not a real person - most likely a group of no account trouble-makers. Exactly the types you’ll see on March 17th. Don’t waste your time responding.

I have only attended one veterans rally, the one in Sacramento, Ca. commemorating the Vietnam Memorial about 1986. This is a whole different ball game. I think many of us feel the suffocating frustration of todays doom and gloom Liberal media, and the ever increasing drum beat of the anti-war, anti-American crowd. I couldn’t afford to take time off my job, but “I will”. I can’t afford the flight and accomodations to make the trip from Seattle, but “I will”. I thought about this gathering long and hard, and “Yes I Will” be there on March 17, to stand with my brothers and sisters in defense and support of all that I hold sacred. To send an important message to our younger brothers and sisters in harms way, that our love and support is unconditional.

This Army vet is going to DC to stand shoulder to shoulder with my American brothers and sisters to defend our war memorials. I’d personally like to send a message to our brothers and sisters that are stationed all over this world protecting freedom: I THANK ALL OF YOU! Especially those in combat areas. And please remember that those who denigrate you and/or your mission hate this country anyway. Is Ramsey Clark still friggin alive?

Our opposition represented by Jane Fonda and Herr Ramsey do’nt want Iraq to be free for some reason. Personally I believe that’s because they think freedom is somehow dangerous. We made Japan and Germany democratic countries through occupation and they seem to be doing OK. We still have troops in both countries. Hell, Crazy Jack Murtha would like to redeploy our troops that are in Iraq to Japan. That’ll sure bring the Islamo-facist terrorists to heel. Has Representative Jefferson shown you where to find the cash yet, you crazy ass bastard?

Remember you socialist/communist fools, you’ll sleep well tonight because the UNITED STATES MILITARY is out there protecting your sorry asses. Since you don’t seem to like that fact, maybe you should consider relocating to a country more to your liking such as North Korea, Venezuela, or sunny Cuba. No, you’ll just hang out like the hemorrhoids that you are. Enjoy the smell.

As for me, I’ll stay in the LAND OF THE FREE (because of the brave). Always thankful for those out there on the line somewhere.

    Hello everyone!
My thoughts & prayers go out for all our uniformed people, loyal to the Constitution & Our Nation, of all times and in all places. And to you Good Men & Women - God’s Speed.

This maybe the wrong place for these questions. If so, then please simply delete it (I’ll understand…).

This seems to be a Vet. thing. I am a dependent of a USAF Officer. She is currently stationed McGuire AFB, NJ. I am slightly handicapped (…can’t walk w/o cane). The thought that my wife could be treated the same way that my older bro. was after Viet Nam boils my blood!

    My questions:
Not being a Vet, would I be wecome? Not really an odd question, considering the way we civilians have treated our military in the past it — would be wholly within human nature for Vets to close ranks & exclude civilians.

I noticed the “travel light to the wall” bullet in the operational text. I cannot walk more that 20yrds, (and that far with great difficulty…) w/o my trusty cane. Will that sort of thing be prohibited?

Along the lines of the second query, can I bring my camcorder? The MSM might lie with camera angles & editing, but I want honest video.

Thank you again for all your service to our Country,
    -mfmalone

“Naturally, the common people don’t want war, but after all, it is the leaders of a country who determine the policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag people along whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. This is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in every country.â€? Wow that was said in 1946; sounds familiar. Walter Reed has clean facilities for the wounded. Our VA hospitals will really help…get real like Ike said watch out for the military industrial complex. They are running this war with shoddy equipment. What did Rummy say you go to war with what we give you not what you wished you had.

  30. Skye on March 1st, 2007 5:43 am

Did you cut and past this sermon all by yourself, Lou?

    Define ‘common people’, Lou.

Democracy = fascism - I’m not sure if this can be characterized as the height of arrogant moral equivilence or just plain ignorance of both political systems.

Name one pristine medical facility in this country, Lou. Please provide infection rates of this facility to back up your claim.

Shoddy equipment does not remove a dictator in three weeks. Define ’shoddy equipment’, Lou.

I know I am asking for fact to back up the ongoing liberal wet dream, but hey, a dose of realism now and again is healthy.

  31. JimfromOccupiedNY on March 1st, 2007 10:20 am

I just want to say that I am utterly overwhelmed and have tears in my eyes as I read from mfmalone, THOMAS, and Sarah. Patriots all!

We have people practically willing to crawl on their hands and knees, dragging their oxygen bottles to get to Washington so that they can show our men and women overseas that they are loved and admired for the difficult tasks that they are having to endure, so that we can have peace here and this war can be won. And other patriots willing to help them any way possible! Go over to the forum and post your questions, I know you will be assisted.

Your posts should be saved for eternity at the memorials that will be created for our countrymen and women fighting for our freedom today, so they can remember that there were those that truly appreciated their commitment to preserving freedom by spreading it.

Thanks guys, you’ve made my day!

Lou, I know you’ll hate to hear this but the United States Military, the CIA, the NSA, the FBI, and the POLICE are right now, as you read this, doing their best to prevent some Islamo-fascist from cutting your head off and showing the video of same on Al-Jezeera. I really doubt the boys and girls at ANSWER or the ACLU would care much, unless they could also get some type of propaganda out of it. In fact it appears, to me at least, that they would protect your murderers to their utmost ability. To me it appears that these organizations are more on the side of the Islamo-fascists and dictators. That’s why I’ll be in Washington turning my back on, what I perceive to be, terrorist sympathizers.

Personally I think many mistakes have been in this war on terrorists, but I think that you need to take a look at our history to see the sacrifices and mistakes that have been made in other wars and the adaptations that have been made to defeat the enemy (i.e., when Democrat President FDR firebombed Dresden & Tokyo). Your girl Hillary voted for this war in Iraq. She say’s she was lied to. I don’t believe that. I believe that her and those in her party saw an opportunity to drive a wedge into the American people so that she can gain the power that she craves. David Geffen thinks she’s a liar, too. Best of luck in this worlds journey, Lou.

  32. Credo on March 1st, 2007 12:49 pm

The Republican spin machine is in full force, trying to convince America that a Democratic plan to prevent deployment of troops into the middle of a civil war without sufficient equipment and training is equivalent to “not supporting the troops.” This is absolute nonesense. It is, in fact, the Republican Bush administration and their former lapdog Congress who have repeatedly sent our armed forces into conflict inadequately equipped and under-prepared. Our military has been broken by Bush’s military adventure in Iraq, and the right wing propaganda machine refuses to face the facts: 1) Service members in Iraq and Afghanistan have experienced shortages of force-protection equipment, including up-armored vehicles, electronic countermeasure devices, crew-served weapons and communications equipment (American Forces Press Service, February 15, 2007), 2) the military has been borrowing gear from units stationed in the United States, reducing their ability to respond in case of other military threats around the world (San Francisco Chronicle, February 4, 2007), 3) two army brigades heading to Iraq due to the escalation are skipping their counterinsurgency training session at the Army’s premier training range (San Francisco Chronicle, February 4, 2007), and 4) the Arkansas National Guard’s 39th Brigade Combat Team, scheduled to return to Iraq next year, is 600 rifles short for its 3,500 soldiers (NY Times, February 22, 2007). Meanwhile, we at home have to read about how GIs recovering from injuries suffered in Iraq and Afghanistan at the Walter Reed Army Medical Hospital, a mere five miles from the White House, were found living in rooms infested with mold, soiled carpet and cockroaches (Washington Post, February 18, 2007). Who indeed “supports the troops?” It is clear that the Bush administration only supports our brave men and women as cannon fodder for their failed policies, and little else.

  33. travelinman on March 1st, 2007 12:55 pm

For me the Gathering of Eagles is not about the Bush administration, it’s about the protestors and the groups that support them. We are not political we are angry.

They never reported any of it and believe me the situation at military hospitals is always the same as the care is great but when you have to rely on low bid minority contractors for maintenance what do you expect? Trust me as a 100% disabled vet here in Hawaii Tripler is not a fancy place but the people are great Im also a military retiree so I know quite a bit about what goes on in these places and most of the fault lies with the do gooders who award the bids to crappy contractors. Im lucky I also have excellent civilian coverage and even some of their facilities leave a lot to be desired but that dont sell to the libs! I was in a civilian Re-Hab following my brain aneurysm and trust me the place was the pits and I was physically and mentally abused and NOBODY did a story on me?
