Interview With Lt. Jason Nichols From Appeal For Courage

March 30, 2007

Lt. Jason Nichols is a Navy officer in Baghdad who is the head of Appeal For Courage, a group of active duty, Guard, and Reserve troops who are appealing to Congress to finish the mission in Iraq. He was my guest tonight on The Front Line, and he had some specifically good things to say about Gathering of Eagles, calling it something that was highly motivational–”A lot of guys heard about it.”

He also had this to say:

“The Gathering of Eagles effort is one of the best things I’ve seen, and it really is a case of, in large part, Vietnam vets. I don’t think they are so much “supporting the troops” as they are actively fighting a second front on this war, and they have come out of retirement basically to go into battle again on a front of this war that is just as important for victory as what we’re doing here.”

A Message From GySgt Krueger

March 30, 2007

A word from [Gunnery]Sergeant Krueger, USMC, to Speaker Pelosi:

How can you even think of pushing forward legislation to set a withdrawal date for US forces from Iraq? Do you know how much you embolden the insurgency here in Iraq? YOU ARE JEOPARDIZING THE LIVES OF US SERVICEMEN AND WOMEN WITH YOUR ACTIONS. You and your fellow Democrats are causing the Al Qaeda supported insurgency to use more catastrophic attacks against us and Iraqi forces. You will see more SVBIED’s with chlorine gas, more VBIED’s against civilians and security forces every time you and other Democrats open your mouths. You will have to live with yourself and try to sleep at night knowing all the defeatist propaganda you have spewed forth is nothing more than ammunition for Islamic extremist groups around the world and more US deaths. The ! unsuspecting people who support you know nothing of what goes on over here; you fill their heads with nonsense and talk of pullout to appease them. The only thing that will happen is the establishment of an extremist Islamic state where sharia law is the law of the land and no one is safe.

Sunni Moslems here are coming to our side and joining forces with the government to defeat Al Qaeda(AQI) here in Iraq, but they need our help and they need us to stay. I have spent the last 7 months(3rd tour) in Iraq. I have watched Iraqi citizens pick up weapons and form militias in areas to join forces with Iraqi police/Army. Common citizens who fight and die because we are standing next to them. Not cutting and running or talking of withdrawal. This started after the surge forces the President sent here arrived. We have lost Marines also and it hurts more than you will ever know but we have made a commitment to these people. And I for one will not abandon them and I have of a platoon of Marines who feel the same. I have no control over what happened in 2003 and why we invaded Iraq. That is another discussion, but we are here and they need our help to rid their country of these terrorists. Yes eventually we will leave but we need to do a phased withdrawal without a timeline. At least without a timeline that is published for the world to know. The citizens of Iraq need to see some solidarity in our government, Democrats and Republicans coming together and supporting our President in this war. There is a middle ground here for both parties, you all need to come together and work towards a solution. What we don’t need is more theatrics and clashes between the parties. AQI loves to see that it causes them to do more attacks and continue with the murder and intimidation campaign against Iraqi citizens.

Someone needs to step forward and bring the two parties together. Meet and talk about what you all can do and come to an agreement on the war. Like I said before we need a unified front to present to the world on the Iraq war. The Iraqi people need a morale boost, they need to see we are behind them and we will support them and not cut and run. The insurgency needs to see our resolve is strong and we will endure and defeat them. Extremist Islamist terror groups use our perceived weakness against us. They misunderstand our kindness for weakness. Weakness shown to the world brings more recruits to their cause; it causes more civilian deaths and violence.

Please I implore you to not push this agenda. I have watched you on television and you seem to be using this as a steppingstone to further your political career. STOP!!! More is at stake here. Our countries word is on the line, my word to many Iraqi citizens is on the line. Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines lives are at stake. We know the risks and we face them daily. Don’t make our mission more difficult.

Statement From the New Chairman of GOE, Captain Larry Bailey, USN (Ret.)

March 29, 2007

Thank you, Harry Riley, for the magnificent job you have done in getting “Gathering of Eagles off to such an astounding start. Without you, the job wouldn’t have been done so well. You were just perfect for the job at hand, and America is in your debt. Thanks again.

Eagles, this has been one amazing trip, and it ain’t over. Just thinking about how swiftly thousands of patriotic Americans came together and assembled at The Wall in Washington blows my mind.

Harry Riley and I spoke by telephone in late January or early February and agreed that Jane Fonda’s and Cindy Sheehan’s March on the Pentagon was not going to be given a free pass as Fonda’s was in 1967. Less than two months later, thousands of us demonstrated that the leftists were not going to dominate US policy like they did in the 1960’s and 1970’s.

This time, America was going to register its disapproval, and, by goodness, WE DID! The tens of thousands of us who gathered near The Wall to protect that sacred memorial sent a resounding message to Fonda, Sheehan, and Code Pink that we will NOT stand idly by while the honor of our defenders of freedom is besmirched.

We honestly planned to be a “One-Note Charlie and go home after registering our disagreement with the America-hating crowd that sullied the ground of our nation’s capital. However, the impact of the victory we experienced made us thirsty for more of the same.

It is therefore with great pleasure that I confirm to all of you that we are here to stay. We don’t know exactly what we will do or when and how we will do it, but you can be sure that America-loving patriots are going to be proud to be a part of our effort!

We intend to go on the offensive or defensive whenever our “kitchen cabinet of Eagles from across the nation decides collectively that a time for specific action has come. We are currently looking at a major “Support the Troops gathering back in DC over the Memorial Day weekend in conjunction with “Ride to the Wall, “Free Republic, “Rolling Thunder and other like-minded organizations.

Having tasted victory on St. Patrick’s Day 2007, we intend to make a diet of it. Stick with us, and we will work miracles.

EMail Updates

March 28, 2007

We have over 1,800 people subscribed to email updates from the site.  Unfortunately, there are a large number of you who are experiencing problems with the form.  I’m getting reports of errors and other weird occurrences.

The email updater is a third-party application.  Without going into too much techie detail, I’ll just say that I’m looking into another option that will allow folks to get their email updates without the crazy errors.  The bad news is that it has to wait until after my FAA exams.  The government doesn’t let you work on aircraft unless you pass, and all that.

At any rate, for those of you who have emailed, please excuse my absence for the next few days.  I have one exam down, and four more exams in the next six days.  Once those are over, I will get to work on fixing some of these errors, I promise.

Thank y’all so much for your patience. I really appreciate it.

Gathering of Eagles National, Regional, State, and County Coordinator Call

March 24, 2007

************ALERT***********

The Gathering of Eagles March 17, 2007 event in Washington, D.C. has proven Eagles are ready to network for action nationwide. We don’t have a choice.

The anti-America, pro-surrender crowd shrill in the streets and Congress is destroying America…we must prepare to field hundreds of thousands of veterans, spouses, family members and other Americans in single events, or risk losing our nation and the freedom our blood secured. If we don’t, no one else will. There is only one choice…we must hit the streets in such massive numbers it will force leadership and attitude changes in America.

We must pick our battles carefully, but when we do, it must be massive, deliberate, non-violent, without compromise or apology in standing firm for America.

We can do this without a lot of formal organizational stuff that will tie our hands…we need to be free to act and able to contact each other.

A Gathering of Eagles informal national email net is essential and intended as an unofficial, ad hoc effort without bureaucratic entanglements, no dues, no 501C whatevers, but comprised of individuals with the motivation, drive, commitment, as displayed by Eagles on March 17, 2007.

This net is not intended to replace or interfere with any organization, existing communications apparatus, but to be used as an alert net that touches people and organizations across America, a vehicle to call for important/critical action in supporting America, our troops, or other actions as deemed appropriate. This net will function in a chain-of-command fashion.

It’s not clear who or what mechanism will comprise the informal national coordinator/staff but this does not hinder moving toward Regional and State Coordinators across America.

America can be divided into five regions. Thus, we need ten volunteers (five coordinators with five back-up/assistant coordinators) that can devote the time and energy when required, has the expertise to carry out a coordinators function, and assume the responsibility.

Basic responsibility for Regional Coordinators will be to enlist/identify State coordinators for every State in his/her region; keep abreast of events, activities within the region ; identify regional action as necessary; recommend initiatives within a region for national support; be prepared to support other region initiatives; raise funds for regional events; and be prepared to assist national coordinator as requested.

State/back-up/assistant Coordinators will mirror Regional Coordinators responsibility at the State level and develop a coordinator net within each individual State.

The Mission Statement on www.gatheringofeagles.org will reflect the principles of trust that continue to under-gird Gathering of Eagles activities (rallies, marches, other events) or any other undertaking that may be decided to pursue.

Names, email addresses, phone numbers of all coordinators will be maintained on www.gatheringofeagles.org web site as public information.

Those interested in assuming responsibility for any coordinator function (national, regional, state) should leave egos and personal politics behind, ensure you concur with Gathering of Eagles mission principles, volunteer and send a short synopsis of why you desire to serve and the background/personal characteristics you have that fits the job.

Send the volunteer information to Harry Riley, hmriley@cox.net.

Regional Coordinators will be selected at national, any State volunteer information will be held at national and passed to Regional Coordinators after selection for Regional personal selection process.

The United States is divided into five regions. These regions are the Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, Southwest, and the West. The states in the five regions are all in the same geographical area of the United States.

There is no pride of ownership in this proposed action, so assume it will be an evolving initiative which the team effort we showed on March 17, 2007 will refine as needed…right now we need commitments and we need them quickly .

Making A Stand At The Wall

March 23, 2007

An excerpt from an article written by Kevin Ferris at the Philadelphia Inquirer:

For Kathy Mizner, 58, Saturday was a “fantastic day.” Mizner’s father served in World War II. Her husband was in Vietnam. Her son in Iraq. Like Kirlin, she rode the bus for D.C. that Hill had organized. To get to 30th Street Station for the 6 a.m. departure, she left her home in West Deptford at 4. Mizner is usually “scared to death” to drive on ice- and snow-covered roads, but this was important to her. “We’ve always been true to the flag and our troops,” she says. “That’s how I was raised.”

“To be with true heroes, the Vietnam vets and the kids in uniform still serving, to give them a kiss and to say, ‘God bless’ . . . money can’t buy the feeling it gave me to do that for them,” she says.

As a marshal helping to ensure order, Hill heard plenty of angry exchanges, with neither side holding back. He recalls one protester marching by and yelling, “You don’t support the troops!”

The vets fired back: “We are the troops!

It’s a good article…read the whole thing here.

Eagle-Eyed Patriots Show Their Pride

March 23, 2007

Felicia Benamon, a political columnist, wrote an article and included many pictures about the Move America Forward rally she attended en route to DC and the Gathering of Eagles. Thank you for your coverage, Fee!

The fierce determination of the eagle shown through in our nation’s capitol. They came from near and far, some as far away as Canada to answer the calling to defend our sacred memorials on March 17, 2007 from anti-war protesters who have been known to get out of control in recent marches.

Ordinary Americans supporting the troops, and proud Vets from past and present wars, met up in Washington D.C. under the banner of the Gathering of Eagles. Approximately 30,000 Eagles came together to show that the voice of the silent majority, those who support the troops and their mission, must be heard!

Peace Protester Spits At An Eagle

March 23, 2007

HotAir has a link to a video of confrontations between anti-war protesters and Eagles. At about 1:49 into the video clip, the anti-war protester spits at an Eagle. Except…get this…the glob of spit doesn’t quite get far enough, and ends up glopping down in front of her. If that one scene isn’t a priceless metaphor for the entire ineffectual peace movement - I don’t know what is.

Drooling imbeciles. Some things never change, do they?

Media Miss The Story Again: Historic Pro-troop Movement Surges On War Anniversary

Iraq War unique in its sustained pushback against warmed-over Vietnam-styled protesters

By Catherine Moy

Days after a historic gathering of patriots in Washington D.C., some in the old-line media - the tyrannosaurus press - are finally telling part of the story about the clash between the anti-American, anti-war protestors and their counterparts: American patriots. Like a good western movie, the good guys won.

But most coverage still misses the bigger story of Saturday’s anti-war temper tantrum and the push back from veterans, troops, and Americans who arrived from as far away as Hawaii. The Gathering of Eagles, the name given to the 30,000-strong crowd of pro-troop supporters on Saturday, was the largest showing of red-blooded patriots during this war. Thousands have carried the torch since March 19, 2003, the first days of the war in Iraq.

GOE Rally Singers

March 21, 2007

Now you can enjoy the songs that you heard at the rally during the Gathering.

Kit Jarrell sang the national anthem, but has written a song expressly for veterans and deployed troops. It’s a song of gratitude, written from the perspective of one who got to serve during peacetime, because of those of you who served “Over There” (audio file will open).

They are everywhere, these veterans. The old man who bags your groceries at the corner store watched the flag go up at Iwo Jima. Your friend’s grandpa spent long, terrifying minutes in a fire-and-brimstone French sky in 1944, hoping his parachute would hold long enough for him to get to the ground. That young-looking guy on crutches who you held the door for yesterday left his right leg and his best friend in Iraq. That mean old lady who lives down the street held the hands–and lives– of thousands of wounded soldiers in an undersupplied hospital.

These men and women are dying now, as their seemingly endless age draws to a close. Their sacrifice, their gift, lives on in the face of well-known soldiers like Joshua Sparling and Pat Tillman–but it also lives in the faces of ‘regular guys’ like my friends Aaron, Nate, Justin and Matt–good men who did their duty and refuse to believe they are heroes. It lives in the white stone that marks the resting place of Randall Shugart and Gary Gordon. It breathes forever in the path worn by the unfaltering steps of a silent guard in front of the Tomb of the Unknown.

If our country survives, it will be because of another generation of men and women who raise their right hand, saying, “I will go for you.

Angela Lashley sang “So Brave”, a ballad from a mother’s perspective of her son in war. Any purchases of her song are an automatic donation to Soldier’s Angels. Words from Angela:

My son Jonathan and his best friend since childhood, Brandon, are now both serving somewhere in Iraq. With Godspeed and honor due, this mother’s wish is to see all American sons and daughters home safely and commended for their bravery.

Lloyd Marcus sang the anthem he wrote entitled “United We Stand”. Lloyd wrote this about his song:

I sang my original anthem, “United We Stand” at the Gathering of Eagles rally in Washington DC at the Viet Nam vet’s Wall Memorial. I am black conservative republican singer songwriter and entertainer, Lloyd Marcus.

A smaller anti- America rally received all of the mainstream media coverage. The mood and tone of the two rallies were strikingly different. So-called, ‘peace activists’ waved signs and screamed slogans full of obscenity and hate.

Our pro-America rally over flowed with feelings of respect, unity and love. Viet Nam vets embraced and exchanged the words, ‘welcome home brother’. People spoke with pride of fathers and sons who’ve made the ultimate sacrifice defending our country. Yes, there were tears. Perhaps by divine intervention the CD player would not play the soundtrack for my finale song, “United We Stand”. Prompted by the united and supportive crowd, I performed it a capella. The inspired rendition is playing around the world over the internet. Though neglected by the media, the goodness of our rally will resonate like a tsunami of love and support for our troops and America around the world.

Lloyd Marcus

A History-Making Event

March 21, 2007

A note from a Purple Heart veteran, who brought the following four-part series by Tantor to my attention:

Mornin’ All — This is good and tells it like it is, it’s rather long so don’t expect to read it in a couple minutes. I was thinking yesterday as I have been hearing all the distorted reports of the anti-war protest and the lack of coverage on our behalf. On Saturday a few of us ventured over behind the protesters to within feet of their group and low and behold there was a Fox news van parked there. Nowhere on our side of the wall was a Fox news van but one was on the protesters’ side. Now this is the most objective media source that we have and they failed to report the event factually. Even CNN had us outnumbering the Moonbats 4 to 1.

Let’s start a campaign and send e-mails to Fox News and let them know that we did not appreciate them covering the event in the manner that they did. Take five or ten minutes to do this, maybe just maybe at a future demonstration they will change their reporting strategy.

Since Vietnam the media has been biased and it primarily goes back to the Tet offensive of ‘68 when they reported us getting our asses kicked when in fact we broke the NVA and Viet Cong’s back. They never printed a retraction or a correction to that, it stood as a resounding defeat for the American and South Vietnamese forces. Since then they have been distorting the news to their liking.
I am going to send an e-mail right now to Fox News, please join me.

Semper Fi,
John

Please take the time to read all four links below, and follow the research Tantor has done into the groups we faced off with on Saturday. To pique your interest, I’ve added a few short excerpts from each part in the series.

Vietnam Vets Face Down The Moonbats

The greatest irony of this “peace” march is that it was led by ANSWER Communists who promote an ideology which killed a hundred million people in the last century. If you’re looking for peace, the commies will take you anywhere but there. How did the most murderous ideology in history come to lead the “peace” movement? Ignorance, that’s how. Most of the clueless mopes who show up to protest have no idea who is organizing their protest party and don’t care. They don’t know that ANSWER is a front group for the Stalinist Worker’s World Party who supports the most murderous dirtbag dictators in the world. ANSWER uses the anti-war movement as a pretext for luring a crew of useful idiots to man demonstrations to batter America, the true target of the sinister organizers of the radical Left.

If the clueless lefties really wanted peace, the first step is to visualize a peace march that is NOT led by the most murderous ideology in human history.

While the unwitting dopes of the Left flesh out ANSWER’s demonstrations, the witting accomplices of ANSWER are the mainstream media, who turn a blind eye to ANSWER’s Communist affiliations and leave the general public in the dark by maliciously neglecting to report on them for fear that revealing their true character would undermine the anti-war movement they support. That’s how the mainstream media, which fancies itself a spokesman for the people and a watchdog of government, violates the public trust.

Vets Vs Moonbats, Part 2

The WWP is the covert parent of the ANSWER organizers.

One of the many ironies of this “peace” demonstration is that the FBI considers the WWP, the shadowy mastermind of this demonstration, to be a terrorist organization. FBI Director Louis Freeh stated to the US Senate in 2001 that the Workers World Party was a “domestic terrorist group,” adding, “Anarchists and extremist socialist groups — many of which, such as the Workers World Party, have an international presence and, at times, also represent a potential threat in the United States.” Is it a surprise that terrorists protest the war against terror? Why do so many liberals march to the tune of terrorists who wish to destroy America? Ignorance or treason, take your pick.

Vets Vs Moonbats, Part 3

Another irony of the “peace” march is the ubiquitous image of Che Guevara, Fidel’s enforcer, who tortured and executed members of the guerrilla band who fell afoul of of Fidel. After the Communist victory in Cuba, Che took command of a prison where he set to executing hundreds, maybe thousands, of enemies on his personal whim, establishing the Cuban system of political repression. Che is a hero to the “peace” marchers.

“Crazy with fury I will stain my rifle red while slaughtering any enemy that falls in my hands! My nostrils dilate while savoring the acrid odor of gunpowder and blood. With the deaths of my enemies I prepare my being for the sacred fight and join the triumphant proletariat with a bestial howl!” –Che Guevara’s Peace Plan, “Motorcycle Diaries”

As Reagan said, the problem with liberals is that they know so much that isn’t true. The Left has a different script for the war in Iraq, a script for defeat, just like Vietnam. It’s rotten and wrong and the Left has handcuffed itself to this doomsday scenario. They want to lose out of perversity while we want to win out of patriotism and the desire to lift up the world into freedom. The Left isn’t up to that kind of heavy lifting.

Vets Vs Moonbats, Part 4

The socialists were hectoring the crowd on a bullhorn. One of the slogans amplified to the crowds was to support the resistance in Iraq. Yup, you read that right. The commies wanted the useful idiots to support the insurgents killing and wounding our guys in Iraq, beheading Iraqis who work for America, and driving truck bombs into marketplaces. Radicals, have you no sense of decency!?

National Park Service Volunteers Say Thanks

March 21, 2007

Dear Veterans, Family and Friends,

We won. I am so proud of our Veterans, Active Duty Forces and Supporters, for their restraint, demeanor, and patience in the face of the goofs who showed up to demonstrate on Saturday.

My observations will be short. You were trickling in at 0700 that morning when I arrived, gathering in full force all day long in the cold and windy weather, and were still there at 1900 when I left.

You came to stand down at the Wall with we Volunteers in quiet dignity, but on guard.

The adversaries were across Henry Bacon Drive aiming their blaring loudspeakers our way, playing inappropriate rock, latin and hiphop music over our Memorials and I’m sure it was wafting across the Potomac to Arlington National Cemetery.

We were also supplemented by the Park Police and the Washington Metro Police.

The Gathering of Eagles were posted on a very windy knoll at the East End of the Wall, where they had surrounded themselves with hundreds of American flags flying briskly in the breeze. No loud music, no complaining about the environment. Just there to defend the Wall.

I am so very grateful for your presence and please remember that we National Park Service Volunteers - the ‘yellow hats’ - take it very seriously to ensure that respect and honor are most present at your sanctuary.

I’m pleased to serve you.

Best wishes,
Betty

HUMAN EVENTS
by Jack Langer
03/19/2007

I could tell right away this wasn’t going to be your average Washington D.C. anti-war protest.

For months, the anti-war coalition International A.N.S.W.E.R. had been publicizing its plans to hold a major anti-war rally in the nation’s capital on Saturday, March 17. However, reaching the protest staging site next to the Lincoln Memorial at 11:00 — an hour before the protesters were slated to begin marching to the Pentagon — I found the field nearly empty. Across the street stood several thousand counter-demonstrators, mostly comprised of Vietnam War veterans associated with various biker clubs. Wearing leather jackets emblazoned with organization names like “Rolling Thunder,” “Legacy Vets,” and “Combat Veterans of America Motorcycle Club,” the vets had turned out to stand guard at the Vietnam Wall and other monuments after some sites were desecrated at an anti-war rally in January. The vets were a grizzled, tough-looking lot, and their presence seemed to surprise the handful of Chinese tourists snapping photos in the area.

Eagles Talons Enough To Win The Day…And The Future

March 21, 2007

By Harry Riley, COL, USA, Ret
Gathering of Eagles
Tuesday, March 20, 2007

Mission Accomplished, Goals and Objectives satisfied……….that’s the result of Americans gathering in Washington, D.C. on March 17, 2007 to proclaim pride in America, support and love for our warriors in harms way, and protection of the hallowed ground of our fallen guardians of freedom.

Emails, pictures, proclamations, high-five’s, a renewed spirit and hope in America is flying across the Internet, blogs, and media from around the world……Eagles (Americans, Vets young and old, active duty warriors, Moms, Dads, sisters, brothers, college and high school students, cadets) landed in Washington, D.C. on St. Patrick’s Day in massive numbers, announcing to the anti-war/anti-America hate spewing surrender crowd: get used to it, count on it, accept it, and live with………….EAGLES ARE YOUR FUTURE.

According to unofficial estimate reports from National Park Service insiders, 30,000 Eagles soared into Washington, D.C. on St. Patrick’s day to confront and drive the annoying anti-war/ANSWER pests back to their dark hide-outs of deception, distortion, lies, denigration, betrayal, treason, and surrender.

When the Eagle flies and the talons are bared, the vermin scatter, run for cover as did Jane Fonda and others who failed to return to the vomit of her decades old attempt to destroy America…….the anti-war 40 year reunion was akin to a funeral march as compared to the loud birthing joy of Eagles…

Eagles dominated the day while the national media, addicted to the ANSWER anti-war/anti-America rhetoric, bought their distorted message, focused on a few thousand misguided, aimless, American flag dragging, spitting young people, and communist, anti-troop, anti-America speakers while all but ignoring the tens of thousands of Eagles.

If media takes a look at film they will see two drastically different pictures when looking at the anti-war crowd and Gathering of Eagles participants…..one crowd with thousands of proud American flags, the other showed a half dozen and some of them were being dragged on the ground; one crowd with unity, brother and sisterhood, patriotic fervor, the other crowd with aimless direction, vile venom of hate for America…the contrast is clear…which view do you support America?

To say the Gathering of Eagles event in Washington, D.C. was a success would be an understatement….the massive numbers of Eagles is but an indicator of the commitment of American hearts to our nation, our troops, and the fallen warriors that have sacrificed for our freedom. To have been present and experience the joy, and yes - pain, the relief, the emotional roller-coaster was beyond explanation…the Gold Star Mothers, the Blue Star Moms and Dads, the Veterans in wheel chairs, tears, hugs………..in short the anti-war movement set up a reunion for Vietnam Veterans, their widows, spouses, sons and daughters……….

The message of the day was “Welcome Home”, “Never Again”, “Win the War On Terror” from old warriors, young patriots, widows, spouses, and other Americans who found themselves back in the mud, but loving, cherishing, every bit of it. All willing to sacrifice once again for whatever it takes…………..to keep America the land of the free and home of the brave.

God bless America, our troops, their families and all the Eagles in body and spirit.
