Statement of Support from Appeal For Courage

March 20, 2007

40 years ago, a debate was raging much the same as the one today. A small but vocal group opposed to the war in Vietnam managed to convince the public that the war was unwinnable, that the cause was immoral, and that our troops were murderers. They shouted loud enough and long enough to force our politicians to concede and we pulled out of Vietnam too soon. A generation of Vietnam Veterans came home to a country that had forgotten the debt of gratitude that is owed to those who defend freedom. A country that had forgotten how to welcome home its veterans with open arms.

Now, another small but vocal group is trying to convince America that the war in Iraq is already lost, that the cause of freedom is not worth the fight, and that our troops are committing atrocities on a daily basis. But now, there is a difference. There are men and women at home who refuse to let history repeat itself. That same generation of Vietnam Veterans are standing up to ensure that all veterans are treated with the respect they have earned. They are drawing the line at those who say that desecrating our war memorials is an expression of free speech. And they are supporting our troops with their actions and not just their words.

Today over 1700 men and women in uniform have signed an Appeal to ask Congress to support our mission and let us stay in Iraq until the mission is complete. We are asking to stay in harm’s way because we know the importance of what we are doing, and the consequences of failure.

As we fight the battle in Iraq, you have continued to fight the battle at home. As we stand up for freedom and democracy overseas, you are standing guard for freedom and democracy at home. In Iraq today, as it was in Vietnam 40 years ago, we can not lose on the field of battle. You are ensuring that we do not lose it at home. Thank you for your continuing service, and together we will continue the fight for freedom.

Absolutely honored to do it! We must keep the momentum and seize the high ground. You guys stay focused on your mission and keep your powder dry. With the help of GOE, MAF, RT, PGR and multiple other organizations I will make every effort to undo the damage caused by the MSM and their soundbite driven propoganda campaign.

    I am a 100% disabled veteran U.S.Army MP.
You guys keep up the good work. 2 Things I want to say.
Why doesn’t the media give as much coverage to you but
will give it to the protest groups? Is it because they are all left and make more money selling papers doing this.
2 I put an artical in the local paper and so far they have not put my letter in the paper and now it is time to boycott that paper.
3 I remember coming home on leave back in the 70’s and saw Abbie Hoffman during a protest and i charged after him and got a few good licks on him.
I think that was the best day of my life.
Guys take care and we do stand behind you.

My Brothers and Sisters in arms, the forces here that want you to cut and run have met their match, and they don’t know how to handle it. Regardless of what you may have been presented by the main stream media, they were “OUTNUMBERED.” Several of us “OLD” Scouts used methods learned in training and honed in combat to count the “ENEMY.” We came up with 5,000 MAX! Those of us who support YOU and YOUR MISSION numbered at or near 30,000. We are telling you to “Charlie Mike” ( continue mission) and we WILL cover your six here at home. We are preparing to send notice, as if Gathering of Eagles wasn’t enough, to those on the “HILL” that if they vote to order you to cut and run, then they BETTER learn to spell “RESUME”

God Bless You One And ALL

My congratulations from a fighter for freedom of Europe.

    God bless you all.

I give you below a powerful argument to use in debates about the Dem’s foolish proposal of a withdrawal :

“Of course Americans should vote Democrat,” Jihad Jaara, a senior member of the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades terror group and the infamous leader of the 2002 siege of Bethlehem’s Church of the Nativity, told WND.

“This is why American Muslims will support the Democrats, because there is an atmosphere in America that encourages those who want to withdraw from Iraq. It is time that the American people support those who want to take them out of this Iraqi mud,” said Jaara.

Jihad Jaara said an American withdrawal would “mark the beginning of the collapse of this tyrant empire (America).” “Therefore, a victory in Iraq would be a greater defeat for America than in Vietnam.”

He said an American withdrawal from Iraq would “prove the resistance is the most important tool and that this tool works. The victory of the Iraqi revolution will mark an important step in the history of the region and in the attitude regarding the United States.”

Ever read what the President says about this war?

My fellow citizens, at this hour, American and coalition forces are in the early stages of military operations to disarm Iraq, to free its people and to defend the world from grave danger.

And with those words, George W. Bush announced the beginning of the Iraq war on March 19, 2003. And on its fourth anniversary, let’s follow this war through the words of George Bush.

…my fellow Americans: Major combat operations in Iraq have ended. In the battle of Iraq, the United States and our allies have prevailed. - May, 2003

    U.S. Fatalities: 139

The plan sets out ambitious timetables and clear benchmarks to measure progress and practical methods for achieving results. In the 83 days since I announced the end of major combat operations in Iraq, we have made progress, steady progress, in restoring hope in a nation beaten down by decades of tyranny. - July, 2003

    U.S. Fatalities: 206

As America carries out its strategy for security and reconstruction, we need the resources to do the job in Iraq. Soon I will send Congress a request for additional money we need to keep our commitments. In this time of challenge of America, as we ask so much of our military, we in government have a solemn responsibility to give you every tool you need to achieve victory. - September, 2003

    U.S. Fatalities: 320

I’m pleased to report back from the front lines that our troops are strong, morale is high and our military is confident we will prevail. - November, 2003

    U.S. Fatalities: 446

The liberty we prize is not America’s gift to the world; it is God’s gift to humanity. - December, 2003

    U.S. Fatalities: 486

We are representing 84 countries united against a common danger, and joined in a common purpose…We will face this mortal danger, and we will overcome it together. - March, 2004

    U.S. Fatalities: 705

You will find that fighting injustice and evil requires a vision of goodness and truth. - May, 2004

    U.S. Fatalities: 920

We have focused resources on veterans who need it most, those with service-related disabilities and low incomes and special needs. We’ve established a new scheduling system to make certain that veterans seeking care for a service connected condition are the first in line. - August, 2004

    U.S. Fatalities: 1,062

Our men and women in the military have superb training and the best equipment and able commanders. - November, 2004

    U.S. Fatalities: 1,342

You have served with honor and distinction — and a little longer than some of you expected. (Laughter.) - February, 2005

    U.S. Fatalities: 1,579

I think the Iraq government will be up to the task of defeating the insurgents. - May, 2005

    U.S. Fatalities: 1,746

Our strategy is clear in Iraq. - September, 2005

    U.S. Fatalities: 2,012

To achieve victory over such enemies, we are pursuing a comprehensive strategy in Iraq. Americans should have a clear understanding of this strategy - November, 2005

    U.S. Fatalities: 2,192

…that is to be able to say to our country, at any time anybody gets hurt anywhere, they’re going to get the best medical care possible. And that’s done right here at Bethesda, as well as Walter Reed. - December, 2005

    U.S. Fatalities: 2260

A lot of times people ask me about my attitude about things, and here’s my attitude — the only way we can lose in Iraq is if we lose our nerve. - April, 2006

    U.S. Fatalities: 2,484

We’re with you. We know the work is hard, but the work is necessary. And we’re winning; and we’re winning. - June, 2006

    U.S. Fatalities: 2,614

    Absolutely, we’re winning. - October, 2006

    U.S. Fatalities: 2,800

Tonight in Iraq, the Armed Forces of the United States are engaged in a struggle that will determine the direction of the global war on terror — and our safety here at home. The new strategy I outline tonight will change America’s course in Iraq, and help us succeed in the fight against terror. - January, 2007

    U.S. Fatalities: 3,064

We’re pursuing a new strategy in Iraq: a plan that demands more from Iraq’s government; a plan that brings security to Baghdad, as our top priority; and a plan that gives our troops the reinforcements they need to carry out their mission. - March, 2007

    Today George Bush said:

Yet those on the ground are seeing some hopeful signs.

    And on the ground:

An explosion at a Shiite mosque in Baghdad killed at least eight worshippers Monday, the fourth anniversary of the start of the war, while a series of car bombs struck the oil-rich city of Kirkuk in northern Iraq, killing 12, police said.

    U.S. Fatalities: 3,217

  9. Coop on March 20th, 2007 9:58 am

So 3,217 minus 129 = 3,088 servicemen that President Bush personally killed and that you shamelessly use for your own misguided, dishonest agenda.

Major combat operations in Iraq have ended.

Major combat operations did end. The war never did. Why didn’t you keep reading?

We have difficult work to do in Iraq. We’re bringing order to parts of that country that remain dangerous. We’re pursuing and finding leaders of the old regime, who will be held to account for their crimes. We’ve begun the search for hidden chemical and biological weapons and already know of hundreds of sites that will be investigated. We’re helping to rebuild Iraq, where the dictator built palaces for himself, instead of hospitals and schools. And we will stand with the new leaders of Iraq as they establish a government of, by, and for the Iraqi people. (Applause.)

The transition from dictatorship to democracy will take time, but it is worth every effort. Our coalition will stay until our work is done. Then we will leave, and we will leave behind a free Iraq. (Applause.)

The battle of Iraq is one victory in a war on terror that began on September the 11, 2001 — and still goes on. That terrible morning, 19 evil men — the shock troops of a hateful ideology — gave America and the civilized world a glimpse of their ambitions. They imagined, in the words of one terrorist, that September the 11th would be the “beginning of the end of America.” By seeking to turn our cities into killing fields, terrorists and their allies believed that they could destroy this nation’s resolve, and force our retreat from the world. They have failed. (Applause.)

Thank God the adults are in charge.

    Oh yes, Coop March.

You prefer the Democrats quotes ? Al Gore apologizing to the Saudis (those who funded 911) for Guantanamo, or Kerry’s trip to Damascus on november 2006 ?

Thanks for the quotes. It proves to me that Bush is a man of principle. Lincoln faced a serious war during his mandate, but he stood firm and finally found the general capable to win it.

Great leaders have principles. Weak flip-flops.

That’s why I find Bush to be a great President. God bless him.

For all that want to correlate the merit of the war on terror and radical Islam, on-going in the front line - Iraq, by spouting US fatalities please indulge an old vet and read the following. Thank you.

If America would have listened to people like you during the first & second world war we would all be speaking a different language now. The left leaning media and defeatists like you, along with the politicians, lost the war in Viet Nam -not the troops.

Never Again Will We Let This Happen.

Those of us that believe that either we win in Iraq or fight this war here at home I say don’t let people with wrong thinking damage your resolve. Perservere - our voice will be heard just as it was at the Gathering of Eagles rally in DC March 17,2007. WE WILL NO LONGER HOLD OUR VOICES.

The anti-war crowd only gives lip service, in my opinion, as far as supporting the troops go - YOU CAN’T SEPERATE THE WARRIOR FROM THE WAR. Actually they should adopt a more appropriate theme other than bring the troops home, as the last time America faultered and brought the troops home before the job was finished the very troop that the protestors wanted to return were ridiculed and spat upon by the peacenicks. I know -I was spat on. NEVER AGAIN WILL THAT HAPPEN.

Finally, if you anti-war protestors want to quote body counts include the stats from WWI - WWII - Korea - Viet Nam - Bosnia - Mogadishu - World Trade Center - USS Cole - Kobar Towers - US Foriegn Embassys - and when you do your research and get a grand total you will see that your freedom to express your opinion without fear of reprisal is the result of each and every one that made the ultimate sacrifice. Add to that the wounded and disabled and you may begin to see that FREEDOM IS NOT FREE. Please include the more than 88,000 POW’s & MIA’s.

There has never been a good or popular war and every soldier I served with wanted the war to end as soon as possible - BUT NOT BEFORE WE FINISHED THE JOB - The key word is WE - not YOU - and surely not the politicians.

Yes I have no problem with your position that we should leave Iraq, and you should have no problem with my position that to leave before the job is done is just plain misguided and absolutly wrong.

CUT AND RUN IS NOT AN OPTION

GOD BLESS AMERICA AND OUR TROOPS

I am extremely disappointed in the lack of positive media coverage thru the conservative media such as Bill O’Reilly. Oliver North, and Sean Hannity. Add the Washington Times to this list as well.

I am convinced that America hated us 40 years ago and don’t care about we did Saturday. I have written to all the above and get no response. Like the man said in the movie, you talk of being a patriot and supporting the Troops but it is only a punch line at parties.

America turned its back on us again last Saturday. One thing though; I know my brothers I met there would never turn their back on me or another vet. These guys are the real heroes of America and America is too stupid to see it.

Saturday demonstrators were nothing but a bunch of kids being mis-lead a bunch old women left over from the Free Love days with hatred in their heart for anything good.

I think we should do this again somewhere else and this time get 100,000 and kick their asses. That should hit the media left wing and right wing. Besides they think of us as killers and evil people anyway!

Thanks America for leaving us out again. One day there will no one to stand up for freedom. But don’t worry, you can call on the media! They’ll save you!

  24. Rev Hawk on March 20th, 2007 2:43 pm

My fellow Eagles and the ilk, here are some numbers for the protestor’s to chew on. I keep track of these numbers because I lost first my four year old son in 1980 and then my 23 year old son in 1993. From the start of this war to date the pentagon reports that they have lost 1920 service men and women killed and 3500 so badly injured they had to be discharged to traffic accidents. Of these 5420 accidents, 78% where caused by “CIVILIAN DRUNK DRIVERS!

So by comparing these two sets of numbers (Combat Loses and traffic accidents) one can come to the conclusion that our troops are SAFER on patrol in the worst area of Bagdad than they are back here at home where the ilk want them to reurn to.

Would LOVE to hear their read on this “FACT.”

  26. John from LI on March 20th, 2007 3:01 pm

I was never in the service. But, 30+ years ago, when I was young and single, I roomed with two gentleman who were affiliated with that organization that calls itself “misguided children.” One of them told me about the Gathering of Eagles and I went to D.C. and met with him, his father (a WW II Coast Guardsman), his brother, who is an Air Force vet, and his son, a newly comissioned Marine 2nd Lt. In my humble opinion, last Saturday, St. Patrick’s Day, was a good day for Uncle Sam.

Somebody in that big domed building at the other end of the mall must have noticed that the folks on the American side outnumbered the freaks [sometimes referred to as "moonbats"] by at least 2 to 1, maybe even 3 to 1. That’s important, because the jackasses who are running the place, at least until 1/1/09, seem to think that the American people want to cut an run from Iraq. Last Saturday, we showed that there is a substantial number of us who feel otherwise. Now, we should all write, or call, our congresscritters and tell him/her/it that we will not countenance a premature withdrawal from Iraq. That we believe that the resulting turmoil would constitute a major threat to the security of the United States. And make sure that you tell them that you VOTE.

There was another important group of people who need to hear about our actions on the mall, and at the Lincoln Memorial, last Saturday. Some members of that group were there. They were talking to my old law school room mate, addressing him as “Colonel,” the rank he held when he retired [actually Lt. Col.] a few years ago. These were kids on active duty. They had driven up from Lejuene to see what was going on. I am confident that they are telling everyone they know, in every service, that the news reports from home are not entirely accurate; that a substantial number of Americans believe in them, and the importance of their mission.

Similarly, the terrorists had to get a message last Saturday. Now they know that their public relations/propaganda campaign is not really working. While they may be able to influence the jackasses (it seems you can convince a jackass of anything, especially if it from San Francisco) but there is a no longer silent majority that wants to see asses kicked, names taken, and, above all, America safe and free.

We sent the appropriate message(s) on Saturday. In all likelihood, we will have to do it again in the not too distant future. The planning should start now.

Hey coop… You hypocrite ! If you are so worried about the loss of American lives , where’s your freaking outrage over the 18000 drunken driving deaths,1200 to 1300 child abuse deaths and over 30000 criminal homicide deaths each year just between California and New York ? C’mon where’s the protest signs and marches ? These people didn’t volunteer to risk their lives like those soldiers and Marines who are willing to do more for this country than shoot their mouths off ! I’ll tell you why liberals don’t get their panties in a bunch over these deaths. Because, it’s not something they can blame on Bush alone ! They really could give two s**ts about people dying ! It’s all politics.

It was never America that hated you. It was the drugged-out hippies of the 60’s that started what it has turned into today, a culmunation of a traitorous bunch of morons who wouldn’t know anything about duty, honor, respect, pride, or love, in anything or anyone.

I agree with you that we should keep having these Gatherings until someone finally somewhere says, “Hey, maybe it isn’t all of America who wants defeat for us in Iraq!”

It really is a shame that the Internet wasn’t around during the Vietnam War. Things could be a whole lot better for a large group of returning Vietnam Veterans if we would have been able to use this venue back then to show you the support you deserved.

This gave me a good chuckle. Enjoy.

    Quote:

The Gathering of Eagles Was HAWT!
    Patriotism is sexy.

Perhaps it is Jane’s kink for leather, but I have never been in one place so full of hunky Retrosexual men with American flags in all my life. The Eagles were 20 to 1, men to women, so ladies, if you weren’t there, you missed way more than a chance to visit The National Zoo of The Unwashed. The few female Eagles were feisty to say the least and equally arrayed in cowhide and bunting.

By one park policeman’s estimate, the Eagles outnumbered the ANSWER crowd almost four to one by 11:30am. Since he had patrolled the entire area, I would be inclined to agree with him. He added that everyone was minding their manners so far.

The smattering of protesters that ANSWER scraped together for the event could easily have been piled up in a stiff breeze using only a fan rake. The Libs attempted to create the illusion of numbers with the standard strident woman screeching into an overblown speaker system exhorting all 400 or so protesters to bunch up close to the stage so they could be counted.

The Eagles needed no such encouragement to be counted. They were there with a job to do. They strung themselves along either side of the sidewalk and taunted the Peaceniks, plenty of whom did not back down. Metal detectors at the mouth of the Vietnam Memorial were enough to keep all but the hard core patriots from visiting The Wall. Libs may stand in line for handouts, but not for a cavity check.

This day was a testament to an American patriot’s willingness to report for duty in spite of miserably cold conditions, show restraint in the face of immeasurable temptation, and do it all with style

Eagles up! Since 9/11 I have not ever talked to anyone that really understood the real significance of our presence in Iraq. For decades the Muslim extremist have been able to strike anywhere in the world, killing innocent civilians who never did anything to them, then snub their nose at us and say, nanner-nanner boo-boo you can’t get us. They would run and hide behind Sad-damn’s skirts and spew their anti-American slogans and fire their weapons in the air while burning the American flag. At the time, they were protected by Sad-damn and his thugs and there wasn’t a damn thing we could do.
Well guess what, a real man stepped up to the plate one day after over 3000 innocent Americans gave all, and said enough is enough and deployed once again, brave young men and women to clean out a nest of vermin. I watched, with a lump of pride in my throat and tears in my eyes, as they moved through Iraq kicking Sad-Damn’s butt.
The point is this. Once we gained control of this once surrounded oasis that was untouchable before 9/11 and put our military bases into effect, I ask you this. What has not happened to American soil since we have been in Iraq? That‘s right, we have not had one single attack against us. Why, because the Muslim extremist have no place to hide anymore. They know that if they strike us, we no longer have to beg on our knees for permission from surrounding countries that are sympathetic to their cause. If they hit us now we can be over them within 15 minutes and don’t have to ask anyone for crap. Tell the lefties to get their head out of their a$$ and let our troops finish what they were asked to do in the beginning, and that is protect us here at home. BTW, they have been doing one heck of a job up to this point. It’s not about oil; it’s about FREEDOM. So contact your congressmen and senators and stand up for those brave men and women. PLEASE, don’t let them be spat upon like I was 40 years ago.

  38. wheelsqm2 on March 20th, 2007 7:12 pm

Damn, I am proud of you troops! I only wish that we had someone 40 years ago to cover our backs. Maybe a million or so Vietnamese would still be alive.
Jane, Cindy and her like have awakened the proverbial 800# gorilla after 40 years. Now, they don’t know what to do with it!
I must apolojize to ALL of you for us being asleep at the switch back in January. But you can bet your ass it will never, never happen again.
Focus. Focus on your mission in the war zone. We’ll deal with the scum here. With 8 months of planning, they had about 3000 protesters. We were mobilized in about 5 weeks with a headcount around 30,000. For some reason Code Pink, Black Panthers, the Hollywood Warriors, and Jane herself were AWOL. Be scared, Jane…..stay scared….very scared. See Jane run LOL!
Just keep up the great work. These old grandfathers will cover you here. Be safe. Godspeed, warrior, Godspeed.

  39. John from LI on March 20th, 2007 9:07 pm

Hey, wheelsqm2, last Saturday was a GOOD START. It gives us something to build on. Next time–AND THERE WILL BE A NEXT TIME–we will be better organized. We will have a sound system of our own, we may even be able to get a few speakers on our side. One of the most important things is getting some good PR so the media covers us. (I saw a lot of helicopters flying over us on Saturday. I have yet to see an arial photo. One wonders why.)

Unlike Vegas, what happens in Washington is broadcast all over the world. Next time, let’s have enough Eagles on the mall to send a clear message to the Europeans, Vladimir Putin, Ahmindinjad, and everyone else. That message has to be that the troops, God love them, are the tip of the spear. The shaft of that spear is in the hands of the American people and we will settle for nothing less than victory.

If this upsets folks like the French, well, c’est la guerre.

  40. Papi-VA on March 20th, 2007 9:17 pm

SGT Dave Thul - LT Jason Nichols - as an old Vietnam vet, you have my profound thanks and appreciation for the service and sacrifices you have endured. Only those who have fought for it will truly understand the value of freedom and the privileges we enjoy as Americans. The protestors do not understand honor, sacrifice, or endurance and they absolutely do not understand what’s at stake in this war on terror. Not until they see the blood in their own streets will they begin to understand and begin to cry for more solders to help fight the war for them.

But that day will not come and they will probably never understand as long as there are brave warriors like you, out there getting the job done. So don’t let those protesting moon-bats get you down – they are NOT the voice of the majority, and more Eagles will soon be carrying that message forward.

We got your back here at home – both now and when you return. You have a tough job to do out there - so watch your six, keep your powder dry, and go out there and GET SOME!

  41. dunesberry on March 20th, 2007 10:09 pm

What a great bunch of REAL Patriots. I was so glad to find out about this web-site and others where we can let the troops know we support them. I can remember during the Vietnam war the helplessness of having no way to express support for our troops.

Everybody keep energized - start local gatherings - most of all check how your elected officials are voting and let the damn Dumocrats know you don’t approve of their non-support of our troops this is all a political game at the expense of our brave men and women in uniform.

I think the polls are wrong - from what I can tell locally there are a lot of people that deeply support our troops. The poll that is the most ridiculous is the one claiming that it was taken in Iraq!! If a poll was actually taken, the situation must be a lot better that what the Dums are claiming. Do you think it was done by phone or door to door? I send care packages and write letters through the various web-sites to many troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. They all tell me the situation is much better than being reported and they are making great progress

The most dangerous weapons possessed by the terrorists are the Dumocrats in congress. The Dums had better beware of bringing them all home - there will be a lot of people who can testify how they have been lying.

BOTTOM LINE.We are Proud of each and everyone of our troops no matter where they are serving. We also want them to take notice of the Gathering of Eagles on 3/17/07.That was the silent MAJORITY of the AMERICAN PEOPLE showing our support and resolve to FINISH WHAT WAS STARTED WHEN WE ENTERED IRAQ.We are Proud of You,We Support You,We Pray For Your Safety & Return Home. The shehanns and fondas DO NOT SPEAK FOR THE MAJORITY,as a matter of fact the anti-war protestors could hardly speak english at all.

  43. Claire on March 21st, 2007 7:15 am

Thank you so much for what you have done and what you continue to do today. What these protesters fail to realize is that 40 years ago there was a generation at home waiting on their brothers/sisters, etc. who answered the “greetings” summons. This generation (my generation) were too young to vote, and therefore had no voice. We remember with clarity what was done to our family and friends on their return from Vietnam (assuming they were fortunate enough to return), and vow NOT TO LET THIS HAPPEN EVER AGAIN. We are no longer too young, and we do vote; best the politicians remember this. Any doubts concerning our resolve were shown by the support we gave the Swift Boat Vets, and it was such a pleasure to be able to finally do something. We have firmly resolved to put an end to these yesteryear losers. We do not care if the media covers it or not, we only care that our support is recognized by the veterans whose opinions are the only ones that matter. May God bless the Vietnam vets, and our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq. Thank you so much!!

RIGHT ON CLAIRE…..WE COULD CARE LESS ABOUT THE LACK OF “MEDIA” COVERAGE. I WAS SURPRISED THAT FOX WAS ABSENT THOUGH, BECAUSE THEY MOUTH A LOT ABOUT SUPPORTING THE MISSION. O’REILLY HAD A VERY BRIEF SEGMENT WITH MICHELLE MALKIN BUT APPEARED SOMEWHAT CLUELESS. I DON’T THINK HE GRASPED THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE HUGE TURNOUT OF AMERICAN PATRIOTS. O’REILLY HAS NEVER SERVED IN THE MILITARY AND PROBABLY CAN’T RELATE. I ALSO THINK HE IS A CLOSET BUSH HATER, BUT IS TOO COWARDLY TO ADMIT IT.

3/17…..that has a sort of historic ring to it. Like the moral opposite of 9/11. The marking of a sea change in our perception of who we are. I like that!
I must admit, these leftards have got me wondering what the f**k is being taught, instead of history.
At Pearl Harbor, we lost 2400 souls.(mostly military) This lead to a 4 year war where we lost over 400,000 Brothers & Sisters. On 9/11 we lost 3,000 souls.(mostly civilians) This has led to a 4 year war where we have lost 3200 Brothers & Sisters. In a time when the military arts have become more & more deadly, wouldn’t you expect that the numbers would be reversed??? It looks like our CinC is doing a DAMN good job minimizing our losses!!! Put in perspective; our Marine Brothers lost more than TWICE our 4 year losses, on Iwo Jima, in the first 30 days! The Navy lost the same as our 4 year losses, in the first TWO WEEKS of the Saipan operation! Let’s break our losses down to a monthly average…67 lost every 30 days. The Army lost that many in MINUTES on Omaha Beach, as the German artillary got the range and was hitting landing craft with direct hits!
War is war;a sorry, shitty affair we wish was over as soon as we get into it. But to protect our own, we must forge on. Or our next battle may be in our own hometowns! We who serve put others ahead of ourselves, that’s who we are.
    -WARNING:SOAPBOX ALERT!!!!-
Do these keyboard warriors think REAL combat is like their video games?? Everything goes back to before, when you hit “end game”? All the dead warriors get back up to die again in the next game???
NO LEFTARD, when we bleed, we need it replaced. When Brothers die, they’re gone forever. We KNEW this before we took our oath! We took it anyway! Your freedom was bought for with our pain, our disabilities, our deaths. If you’ve never served, we can’t even come close to helping you to understand our closeness, our love for each other. You could have seen inklings of it in the greeting we gave each other on the 17th. The full hug, the knowing look, eye to eye, and the smile of understanding that passes without a word spoken. But you’ll never truely know. Your lack of courage has deprived you of a special love that is only forged by shared hardships and pain….months and years of shared misery. But I wouldn’t trade it for anything I’ve seen or felt in 50-some years. I cherish it as an EARNED bond with some of the greatest human beings I have ever met and will ever hope to. They are TRUELY America’s FINEST! They are the guys who I trusted my ass and my sanity to, and they never faltered, no matter the cost! I pity you that you have not been likewise blessed. “We merry band of brothers, we (not so) few…….” Radar

Thank you for the kind words but I’m not a hero, I was however privilaged to stand shoulder to shoulder with many Heros on March 17, 2007 in a muddy field on a windy knoll.

Thank you brother for your service and sacrifice.

  47. E.Miller on March 21st, 2007 9:19 pm

I think I’ll chime in here.

I am no soldier, I am a sixteen year-old teenager who wants to be a soldier. I’ll say this much.

I know war is a terrible thing, but it can be the right thing. I want to join the military for one reason, To do what is right. And I see so many times on TV how we should bring the troops home, how we should not force them to go over there and lose their lives.

But I WANT to go there. I WANT to fight. Not because I enjoy killing or war, but because I believe my place in this life is to protect the lives of innocents and the freedoms all people deserve. And then people say bring the troops home, but my job would not be finished! If I were over there, I would be over there for a reason, and I wouldn’t want to leave until everything was finished. To leave before my job was done would be to fail in my duty, to spit in the face of the honor and integrity that soldiers carried for years before a whelp like me decided I wanted to run off to foreign countries.

I would not want to be brought home until my job was done. I will not be forced to go over there, and I most certainly would not want to be forced to come back. Not before my duty was done. I believe my purpose is as a soldier someday. I don’t want my purpose in life denied.

I am no soldier, I am just a young man who would like to be part of that honorable tradition some day.

God Bless the Soldiers. And thank you for your sacrifice.

  48. TheGerb on March 21st, 2007 10:18 pm

You stand for what this country is all about. Freedom!! You are to be commended and your parents are to be congratulated on the fine job they did raising you.

In life, including in the service of our country, I have always followed one simple rule - Do the right thing. You are on track and are starting early to do the right thing.

I wish you all the best and I would be proud to stand with you.

TO E MILLER: I want to tell you about something that happened to me at GoE on the 17th. One of my Brothers and I were having coffee outside the gift shop be hind the “commie compond” at the Lincon Memoral. Some “commies” had left several signs they had been carring to go into the gift shop.I picked up the signs and tore them up and put them in the trash box. While a fue of the Brothers that were standing in the aera were saying YEH,RIGHT ON!, There was a family of four, a mother, father and two children standing about ten feet away, all but one had “commie” stickers on their coats. The mother and father were giving me durty looks and talking to eachother. About ten minuets later, one of the children, the one without the “commie” sticker, walk up to me and asked if he could shake my hand. I didn”t know what to think or say. He was ten or eleven. I gave him a ferm hand shake and he told me that he wanted to go to the NAVY ACADAMY and become a SEAL. I can’t tell you how hard it was to keep from crying. I told him to study hard and get good grades and he could do anything. He walked backed back to his family. All the while his parents were giving me durty looks. About five minites later they were going to move on and he came back and held out his hand for a last shake, and said goodby. This time the tears were running down my face. As they are now. Your letter brought back these same feelings. I to would be proud to serve with you!……”GO NAVY”

  56. TheGerb on March 28th, 2007 1:49 am

    Jim,

While not nearly as good and touching a story…

I had the pleasure of riding by bus to GOE with Rolling Thunder, Tennessee Chapter 1. What a great bunch of guys. I never once felt like an outsider.

After the march, we all got on the bus and left DC.

I think we were somewhere in VA where we stopped to eat and down some drinks.

While there, three young(er) people came up to us leather clad bikers and asked us if we had been at the march. They were all veterans and thanked us heartily for being there.

After some great food and a few drinks, we started to pay bills and head back to the bus.

One of our guys, Gabby, got up to leave when a lady passed by and pressed something into his hand.

It was the kindest, sweetest note. The text of which I have tried to get but so far have not.

Suffice it to say that, if our job was to support the troops and spread the word that our soldiers depend on public support, then our mission was a resounding success.
