Talk about a low-budget operation--ours is probably the most cost-effective in the world of patriotic organizations, but it's getting ridiculous. Our ONLY expense at the moment is the $500 we pay our webmaster, and that's a special (REAL special) price, because he handles a dozen or so state websites in addition to this one. Kathy Upton (God bless her!) does her magic on the national site out of love for her country and our troops.
Please take the time right now to open the items on the homepage. You'll see just how much activity is going on in this bare-bones effort! It's really unbelievable what our folks are doing. For example, look at what George Samek in NC and Robert Gowan in HI are doing! George is coordinating our Laptops for Wounded Warriors project and Robert continues to send enormous amounts of Kona coffee to our troops in the field WITHOUT ANY HELP FROM GOE!
Folks, GOE could become one of the pre-eminent troop-support organizations in the country if we had the budget to support it. If we could raise $65,000, I could put Chris Hill on the payroll for a year, and he says he would be responsible for raising his own salary after that. I can only dream of how effective we would be if Chris were a full-time Executive Director.
I'm asking all of you to send what you can afford to keep our website up and to enable George and Robert to at least cover their personal expenses in managing their programs. $25.00 would help; $100.00 would be fantastic. And could someone send me a check for $1000.00 or even more?
Finally, I have to tell you that I have invested a whole bunch of my own money in GOE, and I don't think I'll ever get any of it back. Anyway, that's not the problem; I just mention it to indicate that I've put my money where my mouth is. The problem is coming up with that $500 per month to pay our webmaster! Puh-LEEZE make a contribution or send your check to GOE at PO Box 291; Chocowinity, NC 27817. If you'd like to purchase a laptop all by yourself, please write "Laptop" on the memo line of your check for $400.
For the troops! The troops! And nothing but the troops! (One of those troops, by the way, is my son, who is on his way to Afghanistan as I write this appeal.)
