A local organization that is literally doing God’s work has approached
GoE here in Philadelphia for an assist. The Broad Street Ministry is
renowned for serving delicious lunches and dinners to Philly homeless.
They have tried in the past to identify the number of homeless
veterans in their midst, to no avail. That’s where we come in. In a
partnership with Broad Street, we will be attending these lunches and
dinners to help find our brothers and sisters in arms who may have
fallen on hard times. We will then bring them in from the cold.
This is not just a pat on the back and a fare thee well though. This
is going to be a comprehensive program to get these veterans all the
services they need and deserve. There is a full counseling program
for both the vets and their families courtesy of the ministry. We
have a local attorney and O.I.F. vet who will be providing legal
services, a V.A. accredited jobs training program which will help with
computer literacy and/or G.E.D. instruction, nurses will be on hand
for physical check ups, substance abuse counselors are on standby and
our V.A. representatives are on station to get these men and women
into that pipeline.
Our short range goal is to find as many vets as we can and get them
off the street, but we fully intend to develop this into a national
program once we work the bugs out here in Philadelphia. If anyone is
available on Thursdays from 1100-1300hrs and wants to help please
contact us and we’ll get you into the mix. If anyone has other
availability we can always use volunteers on site to sort clothes,
assist with paperwork, etc. Thanks much. Manchu.

Dear Kathy I am interested in helping homeless Veterans. Please let me know where the lunches will be held. I am a disabled Veteran with some free time and I would be willing to Volunteer. I am currently unable to work due to my disabilities. Please allow me to get involved. I was proud to serve my country, and im proud of our Veterans. Thanks for your'e support .
