BLUNT: HOUSE FINALLY GOES ON RECORD IN SUPPORT OF GEN. PETRAEUS, MEN AND WOMEN IN UNIFORM
September 26, 2007
WASHINGTON – House Republican Whip Roy Blunt (Mo.) issued the following statement this afternoon after the House overwhelmingly approved a resolution condemning “in the strongest possible terms” MoveOn.org’s personal attacks on General David Petraeus, as well as honoring “all members of the Armed Forces,” and their families, for “serving in harm’s way.” Seventy-nine Democrats voted against it.
“It’s been more than two weeks since the Republican Leader introduced a resolution condemning MoveOn’s personal smear campaign against Gen. Petraeus, and nearly a week since the Senate passed its own version and the House majority leader told me he had no intention of allowing a similar vote in our chamber.
“Today, we took matters into our own hands, forcing the House to take up a resolution repudiating these personal attacks, and reaffirming our support for and gratefulness to the men and women serving our country in harm’s way.
“Given the chance, more than three-quarters of the House went on record today in support of our Armed Forces, and in recognition of the extreme sacrifices they and their families make for our country on daily basis. My only disappointment is that a message as important and clear-cut as this couldn’t attract the support of every member of this chamber.”
NOTE: The House Committee on Foreign Affairs took up a similar resolution earlier in the day, returning a vote of 23-13 in favor of quashing the Petraeus resolution and preventing it from even being considered in committee. Many of those members voting in the affirmative came down differently on the issue when presented with the matter on the House floor.
Commentary on the motion by Chris Hill, Gathering of Eagles National Director for Operations:
The motion recognized the service of General Petraeus, as well as all other members of the Armed Forces and civilian personnel serving in harm’s way, as well as their families. It also condemned in the strongest possible terms the personal attacks made by the advocacy group MoveOn.org impugning the integrity and professionalism of General Petraeus.
79 Democrats opposed the resolution. Their names are below. If your member of Congress is listed below, call and ask them why they refuse to support our men and women in uniform. Ask them if this is what they mean when they say “I support the troops.” These 79 members of Congress had the chance to publicly support the troops, or support their cash cow MoveOn.org. They chose the latter. This is why we have to turn out in the streets. This is why we have to stalk the halls of Congress. This is why our mission to support our men and women in uniform hinges on each and every one of us. When elected officials will not even disavow a repugnant ad put out by an anti-American organization it is time for us, the Gathering of Eagles and our fellow patriots in other organizations, to remind them that they work for us.
The 79 members of Congress listed below sided with those who call our brave warriors war criminals. They sided with those who call the commanding general in Iraq a traitor. In short, they decided that it was better to have funds from an organization that believes in destroying our American way of life, than it was to stand up for those who have so bravely stood up for all of us. If this sounds eerily familiar to many of you it should. It is the same model used by the anti-American movement 40 years ago. Our men and women in uniform are under attack. The memorials to our war dead are under attack. Our very way of life is under attack, and it starts with these 79. Don’t let them get away with it again. Manchu.

And all it took was a MoveOn ad to get the attention of our CONgress Critters.
Sad. Ain’t it?
Sadly , BOTH of my State’s vile Congresscritters voted against this Resolution .
I remain utterly ashamed of them , feeble donkeys
that feed at the Soros trough.
Thanks for the report Chris.
Seven Donkeys from Massachusetts voted against this bill. That is beyond pathetic!
First time I wrote to one of them, a staffer responded by saying that Rep. Olver only responded to constituents who lived in his district. My town is in his district and he had campaigned on a theme of having visited every town in his district. Pretty sad, eh?
The second time I wrote, on a time critical issue, the response was that I would hear from them in 4 to 6 weeks. I still have not heard from them.
The entire congressional delegation from Massachusetts is a bad joke and an embarrassment.
Small wonder this state is losing population. I look forward to the day we lose one seat in the House of Representatives due to declining state population. That would be one less of these “professional” politicians in D.C.
I’m truely amazed and disgusted that so many names are on this list!
For once, however, my reps are not.
Ron, you mean 3 of our congressional delegation didn’t vote in lockstep with the rest of their party??? :::shocked:::
Yes, between high real estate prices, spit-swapping gay-bladed “marriage”, and the dirtbags who represent us in Congress, it’s no wonder people are leaving Massachusetts in droves!!!!!
Hey seo3, I am from Worcester and I’m very ashamed that the “cradle of freedom” has turned into the “people’s republic of massachusetts”! I won’t even capitalize it anymore.
Be aware that on Sept. 16, Kerry was to debate Sen. McCain for Meet the Press. After the debate Sen. McCain came out and thanked all the Eagles for their support. Kerry came out and when the Eagles chanted, “Troops, troops, nothing but the troops!” he flipped the Eagles the “bird”.. Class act, huh…!Pretty infantile for a senator…..!
Thanks to the rest of the reps and senators for their support.
OOOooohhhh Raaaahhhhh! Semper Fi..!
Eagles up and away….!
The Korean War vets are dedicated phase two of a Korean War memorial here in Worcester Oct. 20, and some of them just haven’t gotten the message. Kerry has been invited as a guest speaker. Maybe someone should leak to the Kerry camp that Eagles will be there……? What do you think seo3…?
Chickenhawk,
I have little use for, and absolute disdain for Kerry. I don’t understand why any veteran’s group would seek him out to be part of any program, be it ceremonial or otherwise.
Let me say up front, that with the exception of those veterans who provide propaganda and encouragement to our enemies while our troops are still in field, I have nothing but the highest regard for my fellow veterans, and that respect certainly includes Korean War vets.
They have faced an uphill battle for recognition of their sacrifices in the “Police Action” in Korea, and I am glad they are finally getting some of the recognition they have more than earned.
They have worked long and hard to put the monuments in place which will be enduring symbols of their sacrifice and valor … and from what I can gather, Korean vets from Massachusetts have lead the way in many respects.
That being said, I am somewhat taken aback that they would consider having someone like Kerry as a guest speaker, regardless of his current political position, who so many of our Viet Nam vets find offensive.
Kerry, whose elitist attitude slipped thru when he made the comment about (and I am paraphrasing here) “If you don’t do well in school, you might end up in Iraq.” That was an affront to everyone serving in the military today.
Kerry, who turned on his fellow vets, while they were still in the field in Viet Nam. That was an affront to all that served honorably in that conflict
Kerry, who flipped the bird to veterans in D.C. recently. That was an affront to all veterans and their families who were there to support the troops.
I wouldn’t invite this man to speak at a hoe down.
There is currently a dialogue going on, in the forums on Eagle websites, regarding Kerry’s appearance at Wall in D.C. next spring, which I am following with a great deal of interest. While there are lots of ideas being floated around, no clear response has emerged yet.
As a first step, I would encourage any Eagles who are Korean Vets to express their thoughts directly to the vet organizations involved.
As a second step, I will open a topic on the Massachusetts state forum, as I would really like to get some imput and thoughts on what would be an appropriate response to this situation.
Eagles Up!
I posted this on my blog and also pointed out who of the 79 belong to the Out of Iraq Caucus, (46!)with a couple of videos of Maxine waters and her “friends”. These people are no friends of the military or this country!
We must know all we can about them and we must keep standing up to them.
God, I’m pissed!

On behalf of the 30,000+ combat veterans of the Great “Volunteer” State of Tennessee, please brethren, except my sincere apology for the left wing liberal act of Steve Chone (TN) this one of the stupidest gatherings of idiots ever, of course I am for one not surprised in his votes, so “A typical” Chone. You couldn’t pour him on to a combat zone! If he weren’t a puppet for “Lefty” Memphis Mayor Willie Hairrington he wouldn’t be in office anyway.
