From Our Friends At VFF

Dear Vets for Freedom members:

Warfighters need your support today! Please read the urgent letter below (important sections in bold) from Congressman Tom Rooney (FL-16) and call your Congressman and Senators today. The congressman's letter specifically mentions VFF's work on the issue.

Later this week, Congress will vote on a funding bill for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Some in Congress—lead by Nancy Pelosi and anti-war leaders—are trying to attach "international bailout money" to the bill, in addition to stripping language that would ensure detainee photos are not released to the ACLU.

We cannot allow this to happen! Our troops deserve a clean war-funding bill.

In November, VFF supported veterans like Tom Rooney who ran for Congress—and this is why! Now Tom needs your support as he leads the fight in the U.S. Congress to ensure that our troops get the money they need to be successful.

After you read Tom's letter, and call your congressman, we hope you will call the following ten (10) congressmen as well. They are all blue dog Democrats, who we believe could be convinced to support only a clean war-funding bill:

Bobby Bright (AL-02)           (202) 225-2901
Chris Carney (PA-10) (202) 225-3731
Travis Childers (MS-01) (202) 225-4306
Parker Griffith (AL-05) (202) 225-4801
Baron Hill (IN-09) (202) 225-5315
Larry Kissell (NC-08) (202) 225-3715
John Boccieri (OH-16) (202) 225-3876
Walt Minnick (ID-01) (202) 225-6611
Glenn Nye (VA-02) (202) 225-4215
Tom Perriello (VA-05) (202) 225-4711

Move out and draw fire!

Pete Hegseth
Chairman, Vets for Freedom

Dear Friends,

I would like to take this opportunity to give you a legislative update on what's taking place in the House of Representatives this week.

Last month the House passed a Supplemental War funding bill that would fund ongoing military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. I strongly supported the bill which included funding for other programs benefiting our men and women in uniform such as important military construction projects. Unfortunately, the majority's leadership is planning to tag on $108 billion for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to the final bill. In fact the IMF proposal will spend more on a global bail-out of foreign countries than on our own soldiers.

Increased funding for the IMF is highly controversial and should be subject to open debate and considered on its own merits. As IMF members, countries such as Iran, Syria, Venezuela, and Sudan can apply for and receive these funds. Therefore, there is great concern that "state sponsors of terrorism" can apply for and receive American taxpayer money under this proposal.

These concerns should be addressed and debated in committee and on the House floor to allow for an opportunity to consider and amend IMF funding in a stand-alone bill. If sending additional funds to the IMF is the correct thing to do, it should be able to pass on its own merits.

Last week, I sent a letter to Speaker Pelosi asking that they send back a final clean war-funding bill, and not to use troop funding as a political pawn to pass such controversial funding plans. I also spoke about this issue during special orders speeches last week on the House floor. Many veterans' groups, such as Vets for Freedom, have expressed their strong opposition to this plan, and I will continue to voice mine.

Sincerely,

Tom Rooney
Member of Congress

sent my House Rep Chris Lee a fax today. My Senetor is Schumer and he just needs to go. He ignores everyone but the camera.
