STOP PLAYING POLITICS AND FUND THE TROOPS

November 15, 2007

Eagles!

As many of you know, Freedom’s Watch is assisting us, Move America Forward, and other organizations in “getting the word out” about the criticality of providing the necessary funding for American troops in Iraq. This is one of their efforts.

Please do what you can to pass this around–maybe some of you can even pay to put the ad (less the information about Freedom’s Watch paying for the ad) in your local newspapers. At any rate, check out www.freedomswatch.org for more information and write your elected officials in Washington!

You should feel free to make this ad current, as FW uses “today” in describing the release. It’ll obviously be “another day” by the time you can get it published. Also, FW suggests that we take the basic information and make our own local ads. A local ad that would be appropriate would be something like this:

“Americans, the Left and the radical Islamists are working together to defeat the forces of freedom in Iraq and Afghanistan. Gathering of Eagles http://gatheringofeagles.org is working with Freedom’s Watch www.freedomswatch.org and Move America Forward www.moveamericaforward.org to make sure that our troops are adequately funded to fight the most important war of our generation. Please do what you can to ensure that [local congressman/senators] join[s] the fight against Islamic terrorism by providing our troops with what they need to defeat the jihadists.”

Thanks!

Larry Bailey

Today, Freedom’s Watch Launched A New Print Ad Campaign Asking Congress To Stop Playing Politics And Fund Our Troops. The full-page ads will run in seven papers across the country: The Arizona Republic, The Sacramento Bee, The Palm Beach Post, Evansville Courier & Press, Topeka Capital-Journal, The Columbus Dispatch, The [Scranton] Times-Tribune.

Freedom’s Watch Believes Members In These Districts Need To Be Held Accountable For Their Upcoming Vote On Funding Our Troops. We are making real and significant progress in Iraq, but some members continue to play politics with troop funding. Constituents in these districts deserve more than partisan politics when it comes to funding our troops. It is time for Congress to show resolve, to put aside politics and to unite behind victory.

Freedom’s Watch Is Urging Members Of Congress To Stop Deliberately Delaying And Immediately Provide Our Troops With The Necessary Funding. Deputy Secretary of Defense Gordon England wrote a letter to Congressman Murtha last week explaining that without the funding, the Department of Defense will have to deplete key appropriations by early next year, shut down critical programs, and close military facilities.

The New Print Ads Are An Open Letter To The Local Member Of Congress And Speaker Pelosi From Iraq Veteran Andrew Robinson. Andrew Robinson served courageously in the U.S. Marine Corps and was on his second tour of duty when he was wounded by an IED in June of 2006. He currently resides in Oceanside, CA with his wife Sara.

Freedom’s Watch Is Fighting To Protect The Ideals And Issues That Keep America Strong And Prosperous. Freedom’s Watch promotes peace through strength and prosperity through free enterprise. It is dedicated to advancing public policies that protect America’s interests domestically and abroad, foster economic prosperity, and strengthen families.

Freedom’s Watch Is Dedicated To Ensuring A Strong National Defense And A Powerful Fight Against Terror, Especially In Iraq. Those who want to quit while victory is possible have dominated the public debate about terror and Iraq since the 2004 election. Freedom’s Watch gives a voice to those who believe that victory is America’s only choice in order to ensure elected leaders do not abandon America’s mission in Iraq and that they do not cave in to the demands of those who want to cut and run.

In Late August, Freedom’s Watch Launched Its First National Grassroots Campaign Aimed At Ensuring That Congress Continues To Fully Fund The Troops With The Ultimate Goal Of Victory In The War On Terror. Freedom’s Watch spent approximately $15 million on radio and television ads as well as partnered with a host of veteran’s organizations in grassroots activities through mid-September in an effort to ensure terrorism is confronted all over the world.

Freedom’s Watch Also Launched A Media Campaign Shaming Moveon.Org For Its Despicable Attack Of General Petreaus And Encouraged The NY Times To Investigate The Discounted Rate Given To The Radical Left Wing Group. The result was a letter from the NY Times ombudsman exposing the paper as organ to radical left-wing organizations and a resolution passed in the House and Senate condemning MoveOn.Org.

Freedom’s Watch Also Paid For A Full-Page Print Ad In The NY Times Denouncing Columbia University For Inviting And Allowing Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad To Speak While Refusing To Allow The ROTC On Their Campus. Freedom’s Watch believes Ahmadinejad should be treated for what he is – a terrorist who supports the extinction of the United States and Israel.

I posted a post on this too. We must find a way not to let our troops down again as our Vietnam Vets were let down.

When I went to Iraq at the beginning, I was one of the 1st there in January 2003. My Guard unit worked with many active duty members. The active duty guys didn’t have gortex jackets, helmets, flack jackets, etc. because their units didn’t have the money to provide for them. I couldn’t believe it! Being the Guard we had plenty because we also get funding from the state. Our Guard unit provided our active duty brothers and sisters with what they needed. I pray that is not the case now.

Devildog, I will see about sending a base wide e-mail at my base here at home about your site to get our Guard members to send postcards. Having been there I know the need to recieve something from home and from supporters like all of you here.

Got something to say?
