AAR~The Wall that Heals~St Albans, VT

May 19, 2008

Despite the forcast for 5 days of straight rain, we received only a sprinkle or two. VT Eagles supported the Combat Vets Motorcycle Association (CVMA) in escorting the Moving Wall on Thursday, security on Friday night and Sunday and participated in the parade on Sunday.

About 300 people showed up for the ceremonies on Sunday, an amazing crowd for this small town. White carnations were placed by observers at the Wall as the names of Vermonter’s on the Wall were read:

The Missing Man ceremony was read by the local boy scout troop:

We met and thanked lots of Veterans, from WWII thru the current war. It was a great weekend, and hopefully some of those old wounds are beginning to heal. It was great to see all the young people there. I spoke with several that showed up about 2300 Friday night. They were curious and had a ton of questions. We talked for some time about the importance of remembering. They returned on Sunday with their motorcycles and asked to ride with us in the parade. Of course CVMA allowed them to. It was an education for these boys that they won’t soon forget. Mission Accomplished!
