Blackwater Update

“The charges against our favorite security firm, Blackwater, appear to be, for the most part, unfounded. Those guys are professionals, and they have taken a lot of casualties in protecting our State Department personnel. It appeared to me from the beginning that the big hue and cry about the “massacre” were the manifestation of the tendency of the Left to seize on anything at all to discredit America in its effors to stabilize Iraq.

In a big victory for Blackwater, federal prosecutors have narrowed their wrongdoing probe to only 3 guards involved in the September 16 shootout at Baghdad’s Nisoor Square.
The Associated Press reports, “two weeks into a federal grand jury investigation, people close to the case told AP that authorities have focused the number who could face charges to about three.” There were nearly 35 or so security personnel who participated in various phases on the action that day, before, during, and after the incident in the square. There were just over 900 Blackwater professionals in Iraq in September and nearly 3,500 have rotated through that troubled country over the last 4 years. Read more

From the Chairman:
Please consider writing to your elected officials and your local newspapers on Blackwater’s behalf. I personally know both the owner and the president of Blackwater, and they are top-grade people; so is the organization. They are serving our country as much as is our military. Take a look at their letter to us:
“The Blackwater family is comprised of dedicated and active service providers who work vigorously to support our country. In this tumultuous political climate, Blackwater Worldwide has taken center stage, our services and ethics aggressively challenged with misinformation and outright fabrications. Letters, e-mails and calls to your elected officials, can and will create a positive impact by influencing the manner in which they gather and present information.
While we can’t ask that each supporter do everything, Blackwater asks that everyone do something. Please contact your lawmakers and tell them to stand by the truth. Correspondence should be polite and professional. Just tell the Blackwater story and encourage them to seek the truth instead of reading propaganda and coming to a conclusion. Suggested themes are:
- Cost-efficiency of Blackwater – saving the US taxpayer millions of dollars
- Employees are professionals — service veterans and mature law enforcement personnel
- Numerous lives lost by Blackwater; not a single protectee (US diplomats) has been harmed
If you hear someone say good things about Blackwater, please contact them and let them know that they have your support. Find and contact your federal, state, and local officials by visiting www.congress.org.”
Thank you.
