See What the Iraq Soldiers & Marines See

March 20, 2008

Marine vet turned documentary filmmaker, JD Johannes, spent three
months on the ground in Iraq living with Soldiers and Marines, filming
them as they courageously and selflessly fought the war on the streets
of Baghdad and villages of the Euphrates river valley.

From those three months comes ‘Outside The Wire,’ a documentary
trilogy about Iraq like no other.

Click here to watch a preview–and you will see what I mean.

http://outsidethewire.com/documentary-series/about/extended-trailer.html

The three documentaries, available in a 2-DVD set, take viewers beyond
the headlines and to the war only the grunts get to see and introduces
viewers to unknown heroes like Specialist Jason Stegall, who took on a
suicide truck bomb, saving his unit from destruction.

If you want to see what the war in Iraq looks like outside the
concertina wire and on the streets then you need to watch ‘Outside the
Wire.’

‘So Brave’ song honors son serving in Iraq

‘So Brave’ song has become a voice for mothers searching for comfort

and acknowledgement that their brave sons and daughters are remembered

while deployed and will be embraced upon their return

Nashville, TNOur nation has long revered the mothers of her soldiers.  From Blue Stars in their windows to care packages filled with love and the special touches that only a mother would know – a soldier’s mom is herself a valiant warrior.  They wait for news from the battlefield, they pray their sons and daughters will soon come home and they search for the words that express their pride and hope as they count the days until their soldiers return. NY Times Reports and Prints Story from the Right

July 31, 2007

(Published in the New York Times written by MICHAEL E. O’HANLON and KENNETH M. POLLACK)

“there is enough good happening on the battlefields of Iraq today that Congress should plan on sustaining the effort at least into 2008.”

The New York Times printed this? New York Times Reporters wrote this? Something has undeniably changed. Two of their top reporters got a surprise when they return to Iraq two years later to get the story of a failing policy. Instead, they found the right opposite. They discovered that the troops morale was up under the leadership of Gen. David  Petraeus, and the new surge efforts is paying off big time.

Everywhere they turned Army and Marine units focused on securing the Iraq population, working with Iraqi security units, creating new political and economic arrangements at the local level and providing basic services; electricity, fuel, clean water and sanitation to the Iraqi population.

Sheehan Blogs about GOE!

July 19, 2007

(Contributed by CLEVE R. WOOTSON JR. published by Charlotte Observer)

”At the School of the Assassins in Columbus, GA, and in Charlotte, NC, we ran into similar problems: police presence that seemed to be there to foster violence. At both places the neo-Nazi, pro-war fascist group “Gathering of Eagles” came out to mostly try to intimidate us from our mission,” Sheehan writes in her blog. Read more

“Senate Committee Seeks Information on Eavesdropping”

(Story Written by Laurie Kellman, AP)
WASHINGTON - The Senate subpoenaed the White House and Vice President Dick Cheney’s office Wednesday, demanding documents and elevating the confrontation with President Bush over the administration’s warrant-free eavesdropping on Americans.

“If there have been lies told to us, we’ll refer it to the Department of Justice and the U.S. attorney for whatever legal action they think is appropriate,” Leahy told reporters.

The escalation is part of the Democrats’ effort to hold the administration to account for the way it has conducted the war on terrorism since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. Read more

Democrats Back Down, Troops Morale Boosted

June 22, 2007

(Excerpt By Amir Taheri, New York Post)

The morale of both U.S. and Iraqi troops has been
boosted by the decision by the Democrat Party to tone
down its campaign against U.S. military commitment to
Iraq. There is a feeling in Baghdad that the
possibility of America opting for a cut-and-run
strategy has decreased. That, in turn, has encouraged
the Iraqi military to stop hedging its bets and enter
the battle with greater resolve. Read more

Troop Buildup Yields Positive Results

June 19, 2007

At a Baghdad news conference, Defense Secretary Gates stated that the military buildup was beginning to show dividends. Gen. David H. Petraeus said the operation was intended to take the fight to Al Qaeda’s hideouts in order to cut down the group’s devastating campaign of car bombings.

The comments by General Petraeus are signal that the United States military has yet again entered a new phase in Iraq, four months after the start of the so-called troop surge and a security plan focused on dampening sectarian violence within Baghdad

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE WW II MOVIE STARS?

In contrast to the ideals, opinions and feelings of today’s “Holly wonk” the real actors of yester-year loved the United States. They had both class and integrity. With the advent of World War II many of our actors went to fight rather than stand and rant against this country we all love. They gave up their wealth, position and fame to become service men & women, many as simple “enlisted men”. Read more

House Minority Leader ‘Cries’ for Iraq

May 25, 2007

(Excerpt from transcript of House Minority Leader John Boehner addressing the House)

“Today, we begin an extended debate on the resolution criticizing the latest effort by American forces to win in Iraq. There’s no question that the war in Iraq has been difficult. All Americans are frustrated that we haven’t seen more success and that we haven’t seen it more quickly. But war is never easy and almost never goes according to plan.

Al Qaeda and their supporters in the region have been steadfast in their efforts to slow us down and frustrate our efforts to succeed. But because they cannot defeat Americans on the battlefield, al Qaeda and terrorist sympathizers around the world are trying to divide us here at home. Over the next few days, we have an opportunity to show our enemies that we will not take the bait.”

ORA Update: And Then There Were Three…

Only MT, WY and NE are not yet participating in Operator Recruiter Appreciation on or around May 19th.  If you have friends/acquaintances in these states, or in other states with only one ORA participant (AL, AR, HI, KS, ND, SD, NM, NV, OR, RI, VT and WI), please let them know there’s still time to honor our nation’s recruiters!

Reflected in this most recent map we have 241 participants covering 47 states and D.C.  If you would like to participate and need more information, please see the original thread here:

Operation Recruiter Appreciation

What is truly amazing about our participation to this point is that we have had virtually no media coverage.  One MD woman was pictured in a Hagerstown publication with former MD governor Bob Ehrlich signing an ORA thank-you card.   And the Times-Picayune just ran a short piece on our efforts as well:

Time-Picayune: Operation Recruiter Appreciation and the Gathering of Eagles

We still have time for a media breakthrough, but even if our numbers freeze right here (they won’t) ORA has been a great success!   Below is a press release you may tailor and use in support of your local events.  If you’ve been considering joining our operation, please do so now.  Thank you.

Date and contact info can be changed for local release. Local releases should include specifics of time, date and location. This version was cleared by GOE’s Chairman last week.

OPERATION RECRUITER APPRECIATION, MAY 19, 2007

(WASHINGTON) Veterans and other patriotic Americans associated with the nonpartisan, grassroots group Gathering of Eagles will be honoring military recruiters on or about Saturday, May 19, 2007, with events at recruiting centers all across the country.

Gathering of Eagles members have announced plans to honor and thank recruiters in various ways. Most of the events will be held at recruiting centers on May 19th. Some events will be held at recruiting centers on Friday, May 18th, while other events will be held in local parks where recruiters and their families have been invited to attend picnics in their honor.

As of May 10th, over 220 recruiting centers in 46 states and the District of Columbia have been ‘claimed’ by volunteers who are organizing events tailored to their communities, with many more centers expected to be ‘claimed’ by May 19th.

Operation Recruiter Appreciation is being organized to augment Armed Forces Day by singling out for support a key part of the military that has been under assault by activists opposed to America defending herself in the global war on terror.

Moonbats are Targeting Recruiters on May 19th (What a coincidence!)

May 9, 2007

Okay, apparently there has been some confusion. All the items below, down to the dotted line, are plans from the America haters (ANSWER, UFPJ, Code Pink, etc.). Below the dotted line are my words, respectfully asking folks to step up and honor our recruiters, along with details on Operation Recruiter Appreciation.

May 19 - National Truth About Recruiters Day

On May 19th, 2007, Armed Forces Day, people will set up information tables and hold events outside military recruiting offices across the country to tell the truth about military recruiters. Iraq War Military Resister, Terri Johnson, who went AWOL from the Army rather than be sent to the illegal war in Iraq, told the crowd at the April 21 anti-war rally in Greensboro, NC that we all needed to be at the recruiters offices to tell young people the truth. This is the beginning of such an effort and we will continue these activities on a daily basis. Join us to help expose military recruiters lies and keep them out of our schools and communities.

The good news?  Our ORA event will dwarf their petty, America-hating efforts.

The bad news?  I don’t have anyone signed up for ORA to cover Charlotte NC yet.

Since this is the beginning of their garbage, how about joining our 225+ commitments for Operation Recruiter Appreciation (ORA) across 47 states and D.C.?  We still need participation from AR, MT, NE and WY.  What an opportunity we have here, to both honor America’s recruiters and demoralize the clueless moonbats.  Please click the link for details as to how you can honor our recruiters and military through GOE’s Operation Recruiter Appreciation:

MURDER PLOT TO KILL U.S. SERVICEMEN THWARTED

May 8, 2007

Tuesday , May 08, 2007

MOUNT LAUREL , N.J. —

Six men of Yugoslavian descent were arrested today, with the help of FBI Agents, on charges of plotting to attack the Fort Dix Army post and “kill as many soldiers as possible,” authorities said.

Conversations between the six men have been secretly recorded for the past year by an FBI informant. The FBI informant revealed that the men discussed plans to attack U.S. warships that might dock in Philadelphia and to kill in the name of Allah.

One suspect, Mohamad Ibrahim Shnewer, revealed to the FBI Informant that, “If you want to do anything here, there is Fort Dix and I don’t want to exaggerate, and I assure you that you can hit an American base very easily.”

Court documents reveal further that one suspect spoke of using “rocket-propelled grenades to kill at least 100 soldiers at a time.”

Suspect, Serdar Tatar, was recorded saying, “It doesn’t matter to me whether I get locked up, arrested or get taken away. Or I die, it doesn’t matter. I’m doing it in the name of Allah

Tony Snow, White House spokesman, said Tuesday there is “no direct evidence” that the men had ties to international terrorism.

A shopkeeper in New Jersey alerted the FBI in January 2006 when he told agents he had been asked to copy a “disturbing” video to DVD.  The video content included 10 men in their early 20s “shooting assault weapons at a firing range … while calling for jihad and shouting in Arabic ‘Allah Akbar’ (God is great),” the shopkeeper said.

The men on the tape were identified by agents and the FBI moved quickly to arrest them.  Today they are facing charges in a Camden court for plotting to kill U.S. Servicemen.

Author’s Comment: (This reflects the view of the author and is not intended as factual information for the story it follows.)

A patriot, a citizen, saved the lives of hundred of servicemen and servicewomen by performing a simple act of bravery–calling the authorities. Ladies and Gentleman- today another act of Terrorism was prevented from being carried out on our soil and to think, it wasn’t a soldier in Iraq, it was a shopkeeper from the streets of New Jersey. Terrorism is here! Our citizens, our children, our mothers, daughters, fathers, brothers, sisters, and friends are having to take a stand on their streets and their turfs. What then, I ask, must our soldiers be up against over there? And for those who say we should bring our soldiers home-if we do…….it will become you and me fighting Terrorism in our front lawns, with no authorities left to call. I know I don’t want that-do you?

Then let our soldiers do their job!
